GK2- The Training Day Experiment

Well...looks like I'm in.

:wavey:

Off to go get caught up!

(Edit: Wow, at the top of the page. ALERUM. ok there we go.)

Welcome GJ! :wavey:

I guess we're the new guys around here! (Please forgive the gender assumption, although depending upon your cultural sensibilities, "guy" may be a unisex term... wow, I've been reading too many textbooks tonight!)

Sorry for the double post, but I wanted to share the fact that I just completed my first GOTM! I scored a SS victory on the Conquest GOTM. My firaxis score was 2841 and my Jason score was 3777. I have no idea if that is good, bad or otherwise, but I'm just excited about completing. This is a chestnut, but I owe a substantial part of my victory to this group... even though I haven't actually played a turn yet! Thanks again!

@coletite: Congrats on your win! Do you remember what year you launched the spaceship?

Scout: 1961.

As I peruse the past scores for other GOTMs, it looks like 3777 isn't all that good. But that's OK. At least I didn't lose!

@Coletite: A win is a win, and that's #1. Don't be at all surprised to see some losses in this game.

...and I don't know if you're aware of this, but there was an interesting little "bug" in that game. I don't remember the specifics, but Gator PM'd me a link to the thread that Ainwood started. Apparently the tech prices were set as though the map was "large", even though it was "standard" size. No doubt this pushed back the Jason date for the tech-dependent victory conditions (spaceship & diplo).

The tech pace is also slower at Regent... so don't compare your spaceship win to somebody else's Emperor spaceship win last month. If you must look at past results, find a Regent level game.

So don't be too quick to poor-mouth your win.

...besides, you have now submitted one more GOTM victory than one of your instructors... :mischief: (dig-dig-dig, that was cold, wasn't it?)

Actually it was set to "Huge" which I think made it double.

Here's the link to it.

Yeah, I did know about the tech bug. Before I found out, however, I was concerned that I may be worse at Civ then I thought! I checked the spoiler and a few of the spaceship wins were... well earlier then mine. But I'm not upset. I feel good about it. Besides, if I had a stellar game this time, it would be that much harder to set a personal best! I figure that if I'm somewhere in the middle of the rankings, I'll be happy. Besides, if I did too well, you all'd probably kick me out!

Scout can always use a few Teaching Assistants. He's been too busy fetching beer for GK & from the looks of it way too many. GK is up in a few SG's and hasn't been heard from in awhile.

Looks like there was a little confusion about which save was the correct one to use, and unfortanly I played on the wrongly posted save. I already had about 5 turns into the first save, and am going to have to start over since there was about 3 turns that both I and the last player played. Make sure the save in your turn log is the actual save to use please? I know it was figured out about 10 post later, but since that was on a second page there was no way for me to know... edit the post if you have to, just make sure the file at the end of the log is the correct on please?

It's going to be another 2-3 days before I can complete another turn log... Sorry GK and Bugsy, but it's not going to be as detailed as what I already had, and since my play was different then the last leader I can't just reuse the 2 turns that are my own. If the next player wants to swap this turn with me, and I'll get their turn I'm willing to do it, otherwise it's going to be 2-3 days for a less then my usual detail of a turn log... if we swap, I'll be able to put more detail into it. One thing... I'd change all those temple builds to either harbors or courthouses, depending on the situation....

So the turn log now is:
alerum68- Up
coletite - On deck
qm1- MIA -- Drop for GJ? Are we slotting GJ here?
Mistfit- just played
SolarKnight- skipped

@ Alerum, we'll be adding a sixth slot, and putting GJ behind coletite. QM1 is probably at sea serving his country, and as a former sailor myself, I'm not going to drop him for doing his duty. He can jump in when he returns to port.

@ coletite - that is a very respectable showing for your first GOTM, especially in that game. The tech pace is very slow. Don't worry about where you finish, just learn from it. The first time I played (Last July) I came in something like 205th with a spaceship win. Each time you will get better.

Sounds good to me. Oh yeah, Coletite, because of the little SNAFU with the save file, I think it'd be a good idea if I sat THIS turn out, and let you go ahead and play yours, and either I'll play after you and GJ, or take a skip, depending on how the trainers feel.

Attack the Zulu, and keep building MW for the attack on Persia. Also change Niagara Falls over to workers... it's a natural 2 turn worker factory, and needs to be utilized. Same with the Capitol... with so few city sites left, and the food way over +5, I think that should be turned into a factory as well. It may even be able to be a 1 turn factory, because it has a granary.

I made an error and I left Gator out. My apologies. I fumbled the ball that Gengis dropped.

alerum68- Up
coletite - On deck
GJ -
qm1- MIA (at sea?)
Mistfit- just played
SolarKnight- skipped

Edit - I hate Mondays. Removed Gator.
