Glenn Beck Says Something Smart!!!!!!!!!!

Americans have the right to the specific civil liberties noted within the Constitution. Non Americans do not deserve or have the right to similar treatment from the USA. Beck has been very consistent on this topic, and I agree with him fully. I do not want my nation wasting resources on making life easier for non Americans (guilty or innocent), unless my nation is required to do so by law.

I don't like the UN, it seems so corruptable/corrupted.

Given the permanent seats and veto power of the Security Council, I really don't blame you. It's an oligarchy that more or less serves to give the lesser nations the idea they actually can control the world.

Never mind it has no real power for the most part, once its members choose to yank funding and other assistance.

For the more left-wing members here such as yourself, however, I'd figure you'd be afraid of us trying to apply our Constitution abroad; it's legal imperialism. What's to keep it from soon giving way to economic and military(even though those two already exist in one form or another) imperialism?

This is yet another issue. Is there a set of universal values that should be imposed against the will of the nations, or should each country be allowed to decide its own future? It's not always so clear cut, I know, but it is a very good dividing question, that often drives one's thoughts on how active one should be in foreign policy.

Think about a popularly-supported illiberal democracy. If it is truly popularly-supported by the people, do we leave it be out of self-determination, or do we try to enforce our liberal democratic principles upon them?

The Constitution says that anyone in custody of the US government gets the same rights. So yeah, it's the law.

I feel a chill in the air

And the SCOTUS has also ruled on the matter Hamadan v. Rumsfeld, Boumediene v. Bush and a couple others.

As somebody from the Islamic world, he is OBVIOUSLY connected to Al-Qaeda or some such. No, he couldn't possibly just be another McVeigh but with a different skin tone.

I wouldn't rule out the possibility he is some agent of a foreign terrorist group, but to AUTOMATICALLY assume he is would be insane. Let the investigation discover whether he's involved with anyone big outside the borders, or if he's just some radical anarchist or some such who just happens to be from an Islamic background.

So by your own standards you're insane. Nice. :goodjob:

It must not be very cut and dry, since there is the issue of the detainment of Afghan/Iraq war prisoners in Cuba without a trial. Maybe they are not "in custody" per the definition.

You... I... you know nothing!

I won't deny this. I am indeed considered a nutcase by many, regardless of my visionary facade.

What I meant was automatically sentencing him as if he was guilty, without giving him a chance to defend himself. :p

I have a strong feeling he's guilty(maybe I'm just biased :dunno:), but feelings do not determine the justice system. The law does. And the law says he has to have a trial to prove he's guilty and be sentenced accordingly.

Yay for Glenn Beck? This restores my hope that he's actual not a crazy right winger and is trolling everyone.

Oh and so this isn't considered a spam thread or anything, do YOU think this dude should get Mirandarized? It seems like a such an obvious question, I know, but there's always those 4 or 5 guys that disagree with the rest of CFC about EVERYTHING(not going to name names ).

Anyways, in case my stance isn't clear, OF COURSE he should get mirandarized. I believe in human rights thanks.

Most of what Glenn Beck says is actually a lot smarter than that of our president.

The fact that Bush didn't give a damn about the law, and Obama doesn't see an acceptable way to fix it, does not change the law.

Honestly, I wouldn't consider terrorists to deserve the rights of a POW. They are terrorists, and should be tried by the military and if guilty executed by firing squad. However, they should still get the chance to prove they are innocent before they are punished, you can't pass judgment before finding guilt.

I personally think he is trolling everybody!

Seriously, Glenn Beck has said a couple smart things over his time, for example when Obama did something with the Currency(can't be bothered to remember what it was) a couple months ago(might actually be a year ago), he very nicely explained why it was a bad idea.

But meh. He is ussually an idiot.

didn't realize a statement could be smarter than Obama

That's because Obama is not all that bright. The man's got no street cred.

my point was that it is like comparing apples to... Planck Time!

Apples are grown in a time frame large compared to planck time. There, comparison complete.
