I'm curently enjoy my Pontiac Grand Am V6 3.1l coupe.

I wanted to buy only American car as my first on this continent, and I found this one. But I'm interested to hear what do you think which of three American Car Industry Company is best compares to each other?

GM have a "coalition" with Toyota (but also Saab and Fiat), Ford with Mazda (Volvo, Jaguar) and Chrysler use to had it with Mitsubishi and now with Daimler....

WHO WILL WON THIS ONLY AMERICAN RACE BY YOUR OPINION??

Europian franchise of this companies can count as a valid also in your decision.

I'll have to go with Ford because I love Shelby. Those new mustangs are pretty sweet too.

GM doesn 't have coalition with Toyota ( uglyota how I call them). They are in competition for #1 car manufacturer in world.

I vote for Ford, as they seem to have clearest vision what to do in this difficult years for domestic cars. Five hundred, Freestyle, Mustang , F-150, and upcoming vehicles are showing that.

P.S. Pozdrav za brata Srbina

 Hvala, uzvracam pozdrav :)

MG (not GM)! :D

I wouldn't buy a Ford, but I might consider a Daimler or Jaguar (owned by Ford).
I might consider a Vauxhall or Saab (owned by GM).
I wouldn't buy a Chrysler, but I might consider a Mercedes (owns Chrysler).

My reasons are simple: Ford are poor value for money, imo. Chrysler are too rare in Europe and lack of available spare parts makes them a concern.

So, I guess the same question (from my EU perspective) translates into:

Daimler vs. Saab vs. Mercedes

All are exellent. They would all be on my shortlist for a testdrive, allong with MG :)

No, that's wrong!

Daimler is British. They are part of Jaguar. Jaguar is part of Ford. So I guess Daimler is now American. Bah!

Chrysler teamed up with Daimler-Benz of Germany, who make Mercedes.

Daimler and Daimler-Benz are completely seperate entities.

Daimler and Daimler-Chrysler (the resulting German company) are also completely seperate entities.

I always maintained that the merger of Daimler-Benz and Chrysler should have created Chrysler-Benz to avoid confusion, but the Germans didn't want their contribution to the new name to be at the back. HQ is in Germany, which is why I say Daimler-Chrysler is German.

Back in the day when Daimler (British) competed with Daimler-Benz (German), the German company took the name Mercedes-Benz to avoid confusion... and the British company took the name Daimler of England to avoid confusion. In the past, executives were honest and smart.

However, today, the moron executives at Ford & Daimler-Chrysler have simply created a stupid confusing situation. Ford, if they had half-a-brain, would sue Daimler-Chrysler on the grounds of wanten confusion and have their name forcefully changed. The reverse would be a much weaker case but not completely fruitless as they might be able to force Ford to use the full name Daimler of England instead of plain Daimler - but I doubt that because the trademark is actually the property of Jaguar.

Crap versus Crap versus Crap . . . hmm, the options leave much to be decided.

I'll go for a decent vehicle, like Toyoto, Honda, Mazda, Kia, etc. Basically anything that is non-GM, Ford, or Craplyer is fine.

That being said, my grandpa's '75 Ford is still going, as is my '81 Mustang . . . so Ford is not a total screw-up . . .

GM.

There is a reason you see all those Oldsmobiles and Buicks from the 80s still ticking nicely, while the Fords and Chryslers crap out after 10 years.

Ford is very low-quality these days, and GM is the Evil Empire of cars. Thus, Chrysler.

Ford: Low quality, getting better since the company fell back into the family's hands.

GM: Low quality, getting worse.

Chrysler: Low quality, getting better. (And they own JEEP)

Result: Jeep Wranglers (Not Unlimiteds) are the best.

I pick Japanese. :)

But of the choices, I'd say hands down GM. (although all 3 are starting to become quite competitive with Japanese Manufacturers).

Here's why I pick GM:
-C6 Corvette: 400 BHP, rear-mounted trannie, wicked electronics, gorgeous styling, gorgeous sounding, oh, and did I mention $60 000? Nothing else competes at this price point.
-New Cobalt/Pursuit: The most powerful, most efficient, and most reliable drive trains of any of the entry level offerings from any brand. New Pontiac styling to go along with the G6 and Grand Prix ensures that these are good lookers too. Probably good enough to compete with the Mazda 3.
-GM Trucks: Though they could probably use a style overhaul, GM trucks are unmatched in drive train reliability. Take the GM diesel coupled with the Allison transmission, and you have the most rugged diesel setup money can buy.
-Overall reliability: obviously far superior to other domestic brands
-Resale value: tends to be higher than Chrysler and Ford (due to the above point)
-Fuel economy: Tends to be MUCH higher than Ford and Chrysler. The new Corvette gets better mileage than the Mustang GT by a large amount. And did I mention it has an additional 1.4 liters of displacement and 85 additional BHP? Though the new Hemi in Dodge offerings is very competitive in this regard.

Now for the competition, I must say that I am very impressed with the new F150, the new Ram, the new Mustang offerings, the Ford 500, the Dodge Magnum (actually this is my current favourite north american car besides the Vette), and the Chrysler 300C.

But overall, I think GM has the edge. Especially since it doesn't need to get bailed out by Japan or Germany.

I pick Ford, because I despise Chrysler, and I really don't care for GM, but I have always loved Ford. All my dads cars are mid 80's Fords, and they all run just like the day he bought them. Only thing with Ford is if you don't take care of them they go to crap real fast, but if you keep up the maintenance they will last you forever (or at least till the whell fall off :))

As for foreign cars, the way I see it, The only good Toyota, Honda, Mitsubishi or any foreign car is one that's blown up or wrecked. I despise foreign, mostly cause they're way to small, and their gas maileage is way too good. :)

I'll never understand experiencing an actual emotion towards a car company.

I think some people I went to school with would actually go to war for their Chevy.

Well, since I have a Buick 1994 Century. Thus Buick is part of General Motors, so natrualy I voted for GM ;).

My first new car was a Saturn in 91. Finally gave it to my daughter last year. Still running strong and little repairs throughout the ages. Best car I've ever had.

GM by a long shot. They are the only decent car company in the country (besides some US affiliates of foreign companies). I think they're now number 3 in the world in initial quality behind Toyota and Honda. Besides that, I really like there new models. I suppose this shouldn't influence me but their recent ad campaings have been really good lately too. Ford has one new kind of cool looking car but I forgot what it was called. I actualy own a Ford Focus and its a pretty dependible, nice car. Chrysler is a joke. If there is one thing an immigrant or person moving to the US needs to know, its never buy a Chrysler product, Ever!

Anyway, that's my opinion.

GM made this.

Sure it is a Cadillac concept, but it is one hot car!

I personally think that GM is better because their car companies are pretty nice, Cadillac, HUMMER, Saab (which they bought).

Oh! Lets not forget about the car that literally has no price on it! The Cadillac Sixteen! 1,000 horses, and an economic V16. Cannot be beat!

HERE!!!
