Pre-BtS, GNP was the gross total of all , and (before Costs of Doing Business).
This made GNP a worthless evaluation, because you could feasibly have a GNP greater than your closest rival but still have an empire barely afloat running 100% Gold to pay for all its cities and units.
In BtS, GNP is the net total of all , and (like Joe Harker said, it's your gross total minus Costs of Doing Business).
This makes GNP a great evaluation, because it shows your empire's bottom line.
