What does GNP refer to (in the demographics screen), all commerce or just gold generated? Thanks. :)

In BTS its the sum of gold, culture espanoige points and science - city, unit maintance and inflation and so on.

It was different in the orginal, and it was pretty useless but the one in BTS does show a good amount about your money situation.

Ah, so it even includes :science: from specialists. So basically if your GNP is the biggest by 50%, this indicates that you're kicking butt, no hidden angles to it?

I'm pretty sure:

Pre-BtS, GNP was the gross total of all :science:, :gold: and :culture: (before Costs of Doing Business).

This made GNP a worthless evaluation, because you could feasibly have a GNP greater than your closest rival but still have an empire barely afloat running 100% Gold to pay for all its cities and units.

In BtS, GNP is the net total of all :science:, :gold: and :culture: (like Joe Harker said, it's your gross total minus Costs of Doing Business).

This makes GNP a great evaluation, because it shows your empire's bottom line.

NOTE: I have no "hard evidence" (like code citation) to back this observation up. It's just that -- a conclusion based on an observation
