is this game going to be completely different from civilization iv?
i mean i have heard about no stacks, and the hexagons and such,
so do you think a low-average minded person like me will be able
to play it with out a headache?

They've said that they're going to try to emphasize a "what you see is what you get" design philosophy, and I think its pretty clear that they intend to keep the game accessible.

If you've played Civ4, you'll be fine.

I expect it to be simplified compared to civ IV if anything; if you can handle civ IV and civ Rev you should handle it fine.

If it is simplified and becomes even more of a rts game then I won't be buying it. Civ is about complication and micromanagement. If you want something different go play starcraft.

Ya isnt there whole idea to make it more like civ rev so that more normal people can get into it and play? I never have played rev but ive heard its like civ for dumbies, i may be wrong. Also their choice of steam is to reach the masses, if the games not accesible to the average joe then that doesnt do any good.

My only fear is that they try to get too mainstream, and that civ is turned into some sort of pop culture fad that gets milked and transformed into a totally different game then its roots.

No.
Uninformed people keep saying this, but there is absolutely zero evidence to support it.

This game will be as complicated as any civ so far it seems - except maybe CivRev, but that was not a pc title.

starcraft has pleanty of micromanagement. No cntrl click to tell all barracks to produce a soldier, like you can in civ 4 with cities.

People CIV5 being less complicated isn't a bad thing anyway, complicated isn't a good word. We don't want complicated, we want interesting.

I agree partially. Micromanagement can always be reduced. But I want a heavy game in terms of economy, diplomacy etc. I want economies to be complicated. And I want civics to be complex. But give newbies the option of having governors run these things if they so choose.

I wouldn't want to go too far. I don't want this game to be turned into that EU game (I haven't actually played it, but heard about it). But I'm worried this will turn into Civ Rev (which I haven't played either, but heard about). I don't want a dumb downed game for the console market.

Economics are complex, and should be this way in the game. If anything, the economic system is too simple.

I want complicated... I play Europa Universalis because It's extremely complicated, I play Hearts of Iron because it's even more complicated, I play Victoria because you can spend 3 hours on the tiniest detail of your nation.

I hate playing Civ IV on any setting faster than Marathon and any planet size smaller than giant, I want my games to be long and detailed, I don't automate much, I usually set 1 or 2 workers/continent on trade automation to make sure I don't miss anything, but other than that I manually control everything, even if I have 30-40 cities.

Sure, give the game a number of automation tools for people that don't want the complication, but let us turn them off and really have to sink our teeth into the manual in order to micro every facet of our Civilizations

Complexity and strategic depth aren't necessarily the same thing. Classic example is chess, there are only 6 types of chess pieces on an 8x8 board, yet there's virtually infinite depth. Surely that level of strategic depth can easily be achieved in civilization without requiring players to constantly rearrange dozens of tiles, open up spreadsheets, or engage in other kinds of pointless 'meta' gaming to be able to compete.
