At the moment I have two mail-addresses, one at my school, which will expire in June some time, and one with my family's ISP. Since I'm moving away from home, don't know what new ISP I will get and since I will travel around a lot in a year, I would like to get a new mail address that I could give to people I won't meet every day anymore. I might be able to keep my current ISP-mail, but don't want to count on it.

So, what I'm looking for is a free mail, with an easy address, no ads or altering in the mail (like Hotmail does), don't mind ads on the webpage though, with both POP3 and webbased service, and that doesn't expire if I don't check it for a while (again like Hotmail). I don't want to regularly get spam eiter, unless I screw up and give away the address...

Don't know if this exists, but if it does, I'd like a link please.:)

Um.. not sure if any of these fit your criteria, but:

Lycos Mail- what I use, not sure about the expiration

Yahoo Mail - Once again... expiration... I dont think they expire though, but I could be worng.

From Yahoo! Terms of Service:

§ 11. GENERAL PRACTICES REGARDING USE AND STORAGE

.... You acknowledge that Yahoo! reserves the right to log off accounts that are inactive for an extended period of time.

§ 13. TERMINATION

You agree that Yahoo! may, under certain circumstances and without prior notice, immediately terminate your Yahoo! account, any associated email address, and access to the Service. Cause for such termination shall include, but not be limited to, ... (f) extended periods of inactivity. ...

So it would appear that Yahoo! does expire, though I haven't found anything that gives an indication of what length of dormancy is required before account termination.

I use gmx, but AFAIK it's available only in german. it's pretty good for a free email. the only annoying thing is the GMX-News you get once a week, but I can live with that.

When I moved I used bigfoot.com it was free and still hasn't expired. I don't know what conditions may currently exist.

What it does is forward your e-mail to another account. So, while you're at home, it gets sent to your current e-mail address. When you move, you update your account and it forwards it to the new info, but the e-mail address you give out to people never changes.

When I change ISP providers I'll use it again, telling people to only use my bigfoot account. Than, once I get situated on that account, give them the new info and let the bigfoot activity die down again.

Edit: Here's info on the forwarding:

Spymac looks good, it gives 1GB of space. And there's no Google ads like Gmail is planning to have.

I've created myself an account at Spymac, but it seems their POP3 service is out of order. I can check the webmail (although not in Firefox. ), but it's very slow. Anyone else who use Spymac and know if this is temporary or if it always has been like this?
