Game of the Month 111: June 2010

Game Settings:
Civilization: Dutch
Map: Small map; 5 civ's, flat, 520 turns (1500 - 2020 AD)
Difficulty: Prince
Barbarians: Villages only
Restarts: Off
Victory by conquest only

Starting Techs:
~ Alphabet
~ Horseback Riding
~ Magnetism
~ Map Making
~ Monarchy
~ Navigation
~ Seafaring
~ Writing

This month we're up to an ancient seabatlle challenge. The science settings are very high (10/1000) so it's very hard to get a new advance. We play with a famous Dutch captain: Piet Hein. We play on a small map with almost no land so it can be a quick game and/or an OCC game. Don't forget to change to Monarchy as soon as possible. We're still in depotism. Good luck and have fun.

I need the saves of 1600 AD and 1750 AD and of course the last save.

Games will be due on July 25th, 2010.

Please be sure to follow the submission guidelines when submitting your game (please do not send your files in a .zip file. Attach them directly to your e-mail with your name in the save file).

Please sent the savegames only to civ2gotm@gmail.com.

Have fun.

Starting save is here

What save files do you want? The normal submission guidelines assume a standard timeline for turns, but 1 AD doesn't make sense in this game. Right now I've been saving before each conquest and if I remember to save before or after buying production.

Should be GOTM 111

Looks very interesting. Thanks Magic.

Could someone please elaborate on what this actually means? I have obviously not played that many scenarios.

Basically, it means it will take hundreds of turns to research a single tech.

Nevermind. I didn't save properly during my first run through the game, so I'm ineligible anyway. FWIW, this is about the fastest Civ game I've ever played. An interesting variation.

You're right. You need 1000/10=100 times more beakers then normal. So in the early game you need around 3000 beakers to research a single tech. This way there is a small change to discover a tech.

1600 AD and 1750 AD. I've added it in the first post too.

Huh? Are the submissions required to be OCC, then? I was able to win in the late xxxx's on a straight conquest game. I'll PM a description to avoid posting anything more spoiler-y than I already have.

No the submissions are not required to be OCC. But this game can be won with only a single city while destroying the other cities instead of capturing them.

If you finish before 1600 AD you need only one save. I'll edit your post to remove the winning year. You can start a spoiler thread and mention it there and tell how you played.

I made a mistake with the numbers of civ's. I first mentioned 3 but there are 5. Had some trouble creating this GOTM and was thinking I had 3 civ's instead of 5.

Changed it in the first post.

By the way I want to know how we count the score of this GOTM. I realized yesterday that most players will finish with a score of 0 points (actually lower) because of the -50 penalty for villages only setting of the barbs.

Do you all agree if we forget the -50 points of the barbarians? This way we have manually count the score but it always is higher then 0.

Please let know if there are any objections.
