Maybe Big Trade is still a good way to build towards that end. Dunno yet. But that seems to be the thesis we are testing.
I think that Big Trade would help the end come faster.

I finally found some time to think about E3FT, though I haven't looked at the map yet. We've been asked to state our pre-game plans, so here goes.
I see E3FT as having 2 goals; 1) To gain enough advances to make 1FT possible, and 2) to build a civ capable of making 2FT per turn from cities (plus an easy FT from trade). With very little experience in this kind of game [I have never even tried for 2)], I'm guessing that goal 1) may take longer than 2). So, I plan to focus on goal 1), which means I'll play most of the game like an EL game, including ICS, Big Trade, full SSC and Demo. For goal 2), I expect to need about 60 cities, mostly size 12, each with harbor, library, aqueduct and trade routes. This is not exactly my style, but it doesn't sound hard. Probably, I'll build-up more than seems needed, and may include some univs, sewers, etc.
Usually, even if the map is known, it is not a huge part of my thinking. But I guess that the Earth map is so large, that trade bonuses may get crazy, so I'll probably try to control EurAsia and build RRs there, and send lots of freight across. The terrain may affect these plans - if it seems better suited for ICS, I may give that method priority.
I like to have a target date from the start, but have almost no clue here. I'm hoping it will go a little faster than my last EL game (110) because of a better map, and better play, so I'll aim for approx 800AD.
I too have started. I will post a partial log soon. Like others I chose the northern India site with access to 8 rivers, gold, silk and 2 hidden specials for my SSC. This location is a wonderful place for a SSC. I doubt if anyone would pick any other site.
Not that I put anything past you, but I think +800 is too optimistic. Keep in mind that unlike GOTM110 there are no huts here and thus the early game is much slower. Furthermore, given that this is the earth map and we start in Asia, likely a significant number of our rivals share our continent which includes Europe and Africa. Lack of rivals on nearby islands significantly reduces the trade payouts.I like to have a target date from the start, but have almost no clue here. The info comes from Map Analysis. I always perform one before getting started and report the result in the game thread as this is something you can do before starting to play. I neglected to do that this time, perhaps due to that fact that the map is known. Anyways, you need to make sure you open the large world map that came with the game (not small or medium) and set the resource seed appropriately. From the information at game start the resource seed is either 17 or 49. You have to play the game to discern between the two.How are people getting all this map info ? I have opened several world maps hanging around on my computer, but so far none of them have the same specials as the GOTM 113 map. I have already screwed up the site mentioned above by building a city on the silk.![]()
That's a good point about the huts, though in GOTM110 we couldn't pop until 2000BC. I am not sure whether neighbors in EurAsia and Africa are a + or a - here. Bad for early trade, but good for tribute, and maybe OK for later trade, once we colonize islands /etc. Overall, I think you are right - 800AD is too early. Not that I put anything past you, but I think +800 is too optimistic. Should be fixed now.
