GOTM #2 - Let's hear some updates.

Quick update:

The year is 670 AD and the glorious Mongols have long ago vanquished the Russians, and now the Egyptians have just fallen from grace and are no more!!!
Nine are the wonders that our Civ have made to show the world our glory!!!
I have lots of cities and have even managed to ally myself with the Japanese!! <IMG SRC="http://forums.civfanatics.com/ubb/biggrin.gif" border=0> <IMG SRC="http://forums.civfanatics.com/ubb/biggrin.gif" border=0>
Every thing is going according to plan!!

Plan: take over the world and leave a pet city.
Reason: If I haven't got the time to complete the game I can always win by conquest!!

I can't bring myself to play the GOTM anymore. I was hoping that this would be the first GOTM that I would finish and send in, but I just can't bring myself to play anymore. The Civilization pandemic is draining from my veins right now. I'll start playing again in a few months. That's just the cycle I go through, three months on, three months off. It's been like this for nine years.

Oh well, this s*** happens. If only we had started GOTM a few months earlier, I might have been able to truly participate in this contest. This is a major bummer for me.

WOW I'm amazed of the impact some trade caravans can make!!!! This is the first BIG game that I play since joining this site and that shows!!! With all the new things I have learned in here put to correct use.... The sky is the limit for what you can do!!!!

I'm in 1100 AD and with my current tax/science/lux rates of 20/60/20 I get 481 gold a turn, almost no angry citizens and one advance per turn!!!!!

I love this game!!!!

[sigh]
I'll never be good in this game... <IMG SRC="http://forums.civfanatics.com/ubb/frown.gif" border=0>

I'm now at 1460 AD (determined to end the game before the deadline <IMG SRC="http://forums.civfanatics.com/ubb/angry.gif" border=0>) (not that you're able to check it <IMG SRC="http://forums.civfanatics.com/ubb/tongue.gif" border=0> <IMG SRC="http://forums.civfanatics.com/ubb/rolleyes.gif" border=0>), but I've only destroyed the English yet and no other civ is in danger because of me. About to discover Electronics, and there is the danger that someone else will build Women's Suffrage before me.

No, this is just not it... <IMG SRC="http://forums.civfanatics.com/ubb/shakehead_ron.gif" border=0>

It's now the mid-1700s in my game and the 130 cities of the glorious Mongol democracy are building their spaceship while their armies are still crushing the Vikings. I only have a little over 2000 points at the moment but am about to switch to massive growth.

O no! Women's Suffrage and Darwin's Voyage was built by the others in the same turn!

I'm going to get that Women stuff!

My game inches forward. Early 1400's, and my campaign to take Ravning Enge went horribly. In an effort to save some gold by inciting from a square farther from their capital, I landed my dip and Dragoon to try and work around to the North. All I got for my effort was several wasted turn, lost a few Dragoons, then lost the diplomat in an atttack out of the city (it was stacked with the Dragoon in mountains-thought it would be safe). I ended up just attacking the city after all and razed it to the ground in the process. Vikings are once again gone from that continent, but I have zilch to show for it. Still, I must be doing well. Vikings, Egyptians and Chinese have all allied agianst me, and I am at war with everybody. I've given up suing for peace because nobody is interested. I've really got to work more on my trade, though. With science set to 80% in Republic I"m taking 3 turns to get a tech and barely maintaining any cash flow even with Adam Smith's. Don't know how you do it, Shadowdale.

Hmmmm!!!!

I have just experienced something totally new!!! I have just launched my spaceship in 1730 and ended me turn. The next turn is 1731!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
What happened here???? This is the first time I have launched a spaceship before 2008 so is it normal that the turns go from 5 years to 1 year when you launch the spaceship?????

Go Shadowdale! Getting that early-finish bonus!

Yes, when you launch your spaceship the turns will begin to progress in 1-year increments. I understand that this is a popular feature that people who play OCC games (with one city) use to get earlier landings. If you launch a spaceship that is slower (taking 20+ years) but do so while the turns are 10 years, you will land earlier because it will switch to single years.

For example:

Launch in 1720 with a ship taking 28 years and you'll land in 1748.
vs.
Launch a ship three turns later in 1750 that takes 12 years and land in 1762

Final update on my game: I was happily moving along through the late 1700's and all through the 1800's just terraformaing and building a score. Then I read some posts on the game where people mentioned the scoring and DOH! I coulda been done ages ago. Launced my ship that landed in 1898 and had a good score, but would have had a better GOTM rating had I paid attention!

Oh well, hafta do better next month.

I guess I still got a lot to learn, dont get to many finishs before the 1800's.

Oh well S**T house effort But I finished
1911 AI bet me to Alpha by 3 years.

Matrix I hope you got my E-mail

Please let me know if you did or did not so If you did not i can resend and if I did, so I can get some sleep .

Thank Matrix.

Perhaps, Matrix, instead of sending emails back to everyone individually you could just post somewhere the names of the people whose games you've received.

Just assuming that would be easier and you could update them every so often - I know how much work all of this must be.

Thanks as always!

Yep this normal.

And you're launching ahead of me. Damn! I'm just a few turns later (still 1700s), cranking up the populations of 145 cities with "We love" days with luxuries at 80%, I've half completed my spaceship (that won't take long to finish), and crushing two civs of the three remaining civs at the same time!

It wouldn't be fair to ask you how many cities you have, or what your score is so far with luxuries cranked to 100%. But I'm going to ask you anyway! <IMG SRC="http://forums.civfanatics.com/ubb/wink.gif" border=0>

I've mailed everyone who has submitted his(/her) GOTM. If you haven't received an email, but you did send me your games...yell!

Newt, your email address nathae@telus.net was rejected, but your submission was valid as well.

Futher update: Completed Apollo in 1660 and have begun my spaceship. In a valiant effort just to finish the game in deadline, I am doing horribly score-wise; still under 1000 points. I"ve made many sacrifices, both in game and Real World in an attmept to finish on time. Am even considering selling off improvements to rush build SS parts. Still need to research Superconductor, too (curently researching Laser). Getting a tech every 2 turns, though. I"ve already started building my spaceship, though, and hope an early end will help out my GOTM score.

Omygod, I didn't submit any GOTM yet. And I'm going to miss the second one too? Can't let that happen. i think i just post too much on this forum and actually play too little civ... I'll submit my game tomorrow. No... that would be today, but first I ought to get some sleep. Ah What the heck.

Yes, when you launch your spaceship the turns will begin to progress in 1-year increments.

My game started going in 1 year increments as soon as I started *building* my spaceship; it hasn't launched yet, but I'm in year 1756. Was this a bug? I thought it only went to one-year turns after launch
