GOTM 24 Pre-Game Discussion

Unique unit: Redcoat
The redcoat replaces the standard rifleman. The stats are identical (str = 14, move = 1, cost = 165), however the redcoat gets +25 % strength vs gunpowder units.
As this is beng played in vanilla shouldn't the strength of the Redcoat be 16?

Regarding blue circles, on the initial save they take account of all resources including ones hidden by the fog of war and also those for which you don't have the techs. Once you move they revert to visible resources only.

That's why the initial blue circles often change as soon as you move because the parser discounts the invisible resources.

Second and subsequent settlers do not get this advantage.

Interesting! If it is true that they take into account ALL resources, then there is a very strong argument for settling in the blue circles, huh?!? I always thought they were a bit buggy and just ignored them.

Isn't the first Spoiler thread supposed to be up by now? I'm quite a ways into my game, and am eager to share/compare.

I think I had a pretty slow start and doubt I'll be competitive, but am very interested in seeing how others have done so far... I'll be out of town this weekend and would really like to see how I'm comparing before I leave.

Could someone give us an idea when the spoiler will be posted?

You and me both, brother!;)

Me too. I've often seen that resources and terrain allocation can make a map easy when favorable, and very difficult when unfavorable. 'nuff said. Will wait for the spoiler thread.

Doh! I guess I feel better now. I have only mastered Civ 4 through Noble. Been struggling with Prince. I had things backwards in my head, and thought Monarch was BEFORE Prince. So, I feel better about my result. I think. Should've taken the easiest setting, although it doesn't seem to give you much of an advantage.

REMINDER:

This is a Pre-Game thread. Please do not discuss your game anywhere other than the official spoiler threads after you have opened the start file, until after the game has closed. This applies to the "Pre-Game" Threads, the "Start Files Available" threads, and any other places where you might be tempted to share your experiences during the games.

Late in starting this. Trying it on my Mac. Being very careful not to look at the spoilers.

I've read a bit about how important forests are for a quick start. So I would like to move off the forest but would like to be on a coast. (don't want to start on the corn, that means you loose all the food it could create, right? even though you get the corn health benefit). That means a move to the NW. But to make sure I'll move my Warrior 1 NW to look first
