Conquest in 1720bc. I used my normal plan with triremes, crusaders, LH and MPE. I hope someone will try an alternative idea like explorer/huts (which I simply forgot about) or trade routes for comparison. Thanks for turning restarts off, Duke. :goodjob:

Conquest in 1800BC.
The visible hut gave me a horseman, who tipped a hut which also gave a horseman. This made my strategy closer to "explorers-huts" than usual. I did my best to grow quickly, built MPE and LH, and lost several turns in the endgame, just for the lack of one diplomat (sailed a crusader instead, by mistake ).
I built LH in 2340BC. I suppose that someone able to build it in 2400BC would be able to manage a pre-2000 conquest.

Nice job, LF! I made LH in 2440 bc, then MPE in 2320 bc. My first flots left port without clear direction, so the early LH didn't help that much. Also, I probably delayed making ellies a little too long, and loaded the first flots mainly with settlers, which are slow to pay off.

I built Marco in 2580BC (which is probably difficult to beat by many turns).
I certainly used too many turns to build LH after that.

what is mpe and lh ?;/ where i can find good tactic for counquer, spaceship and OCC?

I exploited the warlord level happiness, and played a classic ICS after getting a chariot from the first hut. MPE in 2960BC, LH 2780 BC. Elephants and Triremes finished the job in 2100 BC. No cities were bribed, but in the end I had to trash my spotless rep to take out the Mongols. A more elegant (perhaps slower playing) war commander could probably finish by 2500BC.
I was hoping to get to Democracy and bulk up the civ for a big score, but the end came too fast for that.
What a blast!

Sweet, Grigor! So ICS and building both MPE+LH quickly were key? Do you have a log?

My OCC attempt was abandoned in the AD years after bulking up to size 30 and not getting out of "Inadequate" rating. With no Blue player I could not exploit tech gifting the KeyCiv, so each tech was costing max beakers. At Warlord level I probably would have made it in AD2000, but I just don't have the time or patience for working it that long. With such a large island I was sure there should be at least one civ on it, but no...

OK, here it is. I had early hut luck, but it was the single minded building, undistracted by roadbuilding, which led to the discovery of Trade in 3080.

GOTM 48 Log.

Initial plan: Warlord level - no happiness neded - Pyramids would be good - ICS to 20 cities, build MPE, LH, maybe Magellans if scince is moving fast (lots of cities, some trade - ST plan). Should I found first or pop the hut? With no forest in radius, there is no size 1 settler possible, so, Pop hut, then pack cities in every other square. Size 1 settler is desirable.

Great game IMO!
MPE in 2960 is really impressive
(though there is a small problem with your log since you mention "2940 = Umfolozi" before MPE)
I bet you get the green star :goodjob:

Given a choice I'd take an AT from a hut over Size1 Settler any day. Wait till the city hits Size2, finish the settler, and have 3 cities instead of 2.

I loved the last-minute Oracle...

BTW, have you heard of Oedo turns? Or did you just miscalc 3360?

Hello !! I just joined your group. I never thought that so many people like to play CIV II. I happened to find your site, and downloaded GOTM 48 has been almost 2 years since a played the game. I got civ I in 93/94 and Civ II in 97/98. I have allways played the Deity level , ( yes I learned the hard way...LOL ) so I was suprised how slow the computer oponents are.
Anyhow, I finished the game in 1420 , my score is 1823 and my rating is 91%..how do you compute the scores ??
I Also downloaded GOTM 46 since is in Deity level and I finished in 1834 , my score was 1163 and my rating 151%...I played one game this past wednesday and one thursday..LOL ..I got hooked again!!
Anyhow, any help I can get will be appreciated.
Thank you

Hi !! Why is that most people consider the Ligthhouse and the Marco Polo so important ?? Do you get extra points ??
I rarely build the Lighthouse..and Marco Polo is not an essencial Wonder.
I am new here, though I have been playing CIV II for many years.
How do I get a Log from my game ??
I have seen high scores in the hall of fame that are beyond incredible ..
250 + cities ?? 250 Supermarkets ?? HOW people can do that..I have some pretty good scores playing at Deity level , against another 7 civs...but the scores I have seen are beyond logical !!!!!! I though I was good....LOL
Anyhow....thanks for the help and forthcoming advise.

.
The Lighthouse is no use if you play on a "continental" map, but it is vital on "archipelago" maps.
Marco Polo IS essential if you try to conquer the world early. It gives you the possibility to swap techs and swap maps with anybody very early. Clever use of Marco is equivalent to 30-40 turns.

So... here i am!
This is my first gotm i have completed and sent in, although i reckon ill probly be at the bottom of the list somewhere, having gone for spaceship victory, and finishing in AD 1636. I dont think there are many more people who will have chosen spaceship, since it was a warlords/no restarts game, but for my first submission i thought id best stick to what i know ('perfectionist' city build-up and science rush).

Welcome, Coren
A 1636 landing is not a bad result at all.
Many players are happy when they manage 19.. :)

Yes La Fayette, I understand your point.
But if you play in the deity the Lighthouse is useless.
I built a diplomat for every other city ( 8 cities , 4 diplomats ), usually is a " Nest " of Barbarians ( in GOTM 48 the cluster was near location 131,31 Northwest of Zimbawe ) appearing often...so I placed a diplomat by the spot and was able to " BUY" 3 Caravels, long before Navigation....
All those 3 Ships are are used as scouts with a Diplomat and a Explorer
For Instance in GOTM 48 I have 24 cities, and all thesseven wonders of the Ancient world Bulit all by 520 BC..plus Marco Polo and King Richardit was too easy...
If you play the hard level against 7 opponents, raging hordes in the large Map is not a chance of quick conquest.
So quick conquest is not an option to me.
Quickies are fun but forgetable....LOL
By the same token, I usually send diplomats and explorers all over( IF I can not build the Marco Polo Wonder , IF I have build Pyramids ,The Wall , Great Library ) Marco Polo is not a necesity in the higher level.
I never build Colossus, Lighthouse , Gardens or the Oracle they are all needless.
Another hint, if you see whales or fish within 3 squares of you land, it means its Land in the other side ...the computer only create those commodities withing 2 squares of land direct your trireme over there and will rarely be lost.
I made another big misstake in game 48 , I built Temples in all of my first 20 plus cities unaware that at this level ( Cheftain ) the riot number is 7 or 8 , I could have built more Settlers...!!
Anyhow is a pleasure chatting with people that appreciate a good game.

Au revoir mon Amie....!! Bon soire.
