DBear: Numidians replace spears and add +1 Att & Def but cost 10s more. I've gotten away from building spearmen early (except in extreme or no resources games) though I do like to build a bunch of them in the late AA to upgrade to pikes if I expect there to be a lot of warfare.

So you can build your pikes earlier and without resources. I'm slightly worried how hannibal will handle Emperor, as i've never played above Regent as Carthage.

With Civ4 out, the Civ3 GotM could become less and less popular... let's try to spice up the thing:

This is a Predator Challenge. I intend to play this game, in predator class, and take over everything. Conquest victory, nothing else matters. Who dares to test his warmonger skill against mine? The prize is only honour, and glory. Not even the awards, although grabbing one of them would be an extra victory.

The Challenge is here for you, brave players, to take it. See you in the scoreboard!

I was going to go for a conquest victory in this one anyways (since I haven't done that in GoTM yet) and I am sure you will beat me by about 1000 years, but I (if I can just stay with open) accept!

Anyone can take it! If you feel equal in open class, i.e. not 'exploiting' open class, then so be it. But if i would be you, i would have tried predator anyway. A more difficult start gives you more satisfaction once you score a victory.

Glad to know! The more we are, the better it is. No more posts from me here (i already got the save) but i'll lurk and wait for even more contenders. Now let the carnage begins!

I bet the first 20 spots will be Conquest/Domination victories.

If I have time I may try conquest too, but I have always played Vanilla Open. Backup victory condition would be Diplo.
Have to see what the map looks like anyway -most of all I will have to find the time to play.
I've had the impression, lately, that they really want me to work here at work...

Looks like a lot of people will play predator this time. Was thinking of chosing predator for the last couple of games, but your challange made me actually doing just that.

This will be my first Gotm, so yeah why not I'll take you on on predator class. Not that i'm very good at conquest but I seem to able to win from last place

My last emperor game I won a diplo. I had the lowest score , except for the romans who i managed to kill. But i did have a huge stretch of tundra and plains ,without fresh water of course. One of the computer players was bashing up the other computer players and when he build the UN they had to choose between him or me, because i had been kissing their but's not to get attacked they chose me.

And on my first diety game I was just able to build four good city's before the computer had settled the rest of the continent we were on i did build a few more city's in some coners. Because i had settled so slow the computer on my continent was more than twice as large as any other computer opponent. I had switched to 100% tax early on and bought all my tech's from him and gave him some tribute once in a while by the late middle ages i managed to catch up in tech and started trading tech's to all other computerplayers signed a mutual protection pact with him as soon as i could to make sure i would not be attacked later on he went to war with the english i managed to grab 3 of their city's after he had bombed them to pieces. one of them had uranium when the computerhad finely researched synthticfibers i had two city's with small wonder prebuild and one with a palace prebuild i swithed those to the space ship component's and managed to finish my space ship before the computer in the late 1100 's i think
