GOTM 8 *Spoiler* Talks

yup...the Super Science City.Makes the game a lot easier as far as science is concerned.
I think that picture is after Collosus has expired as I only see 3 trade arrows from workers.Superhighways and Collosus gives more. So,for a few turns it was higher.

I didn't bother with SETI at the time.I just built the 1 research lab.Almost all my science was coming from 1 city.

Smash, how many cities did you have by 1 ad? And how many beakers did you get totally?

61 cities

0 science...in Anarchy

Owch, I failed pretty miserably. The only thing I could hold on to was my original continent (stupid Celts)...

Same, i only have 7 cities on my original island, i tried to move to the japanese island but they destroyed me, i should be done soon though, but no soon enough!

hey rmsharpe, i've had civ2 for a little less than two weeks too! just keep trying and you'll make it to warlord. the more i play, the higher my civ rating went, my first warlord game was a pathetic 18%, but the next was 31%, and the next 58%, just keep going!

i'm just wondering, what's your strategy for gotm8?
Fast expansion, democracy ASAP, followed by quick WLTP day growth. It's important to get offshore platforms ASAP because of all the coastal cities. You should make lots of caravans, firstly to help build wonders, secondly to get money to buy aqueducts, harbours, sewer systems and finally offshore platforms.

I decided to go for the 'build as many cities as you can at the start and then destroy everyone as soon as posible' tactic. Conquered the world in BC (round 800 I think)
while basically only using triremes and elephants.

Here's my timeline. ( I should be able to finish this one, ran out of free time on the past two).

2140 bc - killed Japanese; found 3 others
1660 bc - 1 mil pop., 10 cities
1120 bc - republic
660 bc - democracy
380 bc - 5 mil pop.
260 bc - musketeers in every city
360 ad - 10 mil pop., 30 cities
720 ad - 20 mil pop., 33 cities
760 ad - Sioux destroyed
920 ad - enemy has 14 cities, 34 units. Celts have only 4 or 5 cities. They are incredibly weak but became a Democracy.

I think I missed some opportunities to take advantage of Warlord because I still played like I was in Emperor or Diety. At this level, if your science is way ahead, the AI loses more cities to barbarians because they'll use Knights when no one else but you has them.

I'm now in 2000 bc (turn 100).

For comparison:

Government: Democracy
35 cities (1,650,000 people)
15 settlers (4 NONE)
111 beakers(pretty crappy science, only set at 50% though)
156 gold
Production:110 mtons
Land area: 497,000 sq. miles
Civ 2 score: 234
Researching: Philosophy

Wonders:
The Pyramids of Osaka (The city is mine)
The Hanging Gardens of Rheims
The Colossus

I'm playing with almost no defense, I've got only 5 military units. If barbs apper either I pay them or if it's possible I use my settlers to defend against them. But I only use settler if I can put them on defensive terrain, don't want to lose them,

Only thing that sux right now is science. The AI's refuses to trade for my science, except gunpowder of course which they beg for as soon as I want to talk to them.
The sioux are another problem they just don't have the time to wait when I'm trying to give them techs.

Well, now it's time for WLTPD and caravans. Decided to spare some off my enemies to trade with.

pathetic finish at 1975 ad by SS
only 7 stinking cities, i couldn't get off that island!

I'm now in 500AD and working on Electronics.
I've just finished some WLTPD growth, so I've got 30,000,000 people.
I'm close to miniaturization (should be about 600AD), so I'm saving up to buy lots of offshore platforms. After that, I should have a properly productive civilization.

I retract what I said about playing on Warlord. It doesn't really make much difference for experienced players to play Warlord, Prince or King because they're going to win easily anyway. The game is more about micromanagement and the terrain is the most important factor. I've found this terrain requires some different choices to normal.

Having said that, I'd still like GOTM9 to be much more of a fight.

WLTPD-growth is what happens in a democracy or a republic when at least half of the population in a city is happy. The city will now grow 1 size every turn as long as they have a food surplus. This is very usefull if you want your cities to grow rapidly. All of they good players here (shadowdale, smash, starlifter...) uses this in their game to boost their score. You should try it out. I can be hard in the begining to get those cities growing but when you learn the trick you'll have great use of it,

This is my first GOTM and I ran into something strange. My diplomats can't enter enemy cities. Any ideas what is going on? I was hoping for B.C. conquest.

I haven't played warlord in so long I completely messed up on when to do happiness things.

I found an earlier shot of my SSC before the Collosus expired.
SSC
Notice there are 4 trade arrows for workers.
