GOTM 8 *Spoiler* Talks

Things are going ok I'm in 120 bc, I've got space flight. Now comes the part where I'm not good at all. I need your help Starlifter,

well................ I'll......... hopefully......... finish.........

Well compared to what I've read so far, I feel pathetic !!!! I had some money problems to start with and slow science but I'm now on my way to a good game, I've built a heap of caravans and I'm only a wee bit away from getting democracy...

Well here's hoping !!!

I've been away from the computer since last Monday, and the world has changed a lot in the last week. However, today I did catch up a little and get to 1 AD.

I'm pretty suprised this game has not been as much a romper-room as I originally imagined it would. Technically, I did not even finish the research tree by 1 AD, though I could have, since I lack only Fundamentalism and Labor Union, and cut science to zero in order to raise gold. I really can't recall a recent game in which I seemed to be so chronically short of gold all the time, but I think that's because of my relatively slow initial expansion which just isn't generating as much income I "usually" rely on.

In case some of you don't play deity and use lots of shields, I can tell you that the mathematics of pollution result in far far less actual polluted squares at Warlord than at Deity!! I've been finding that pollution really is managable without as much pollution control as I "normally" use at higher levels.

Though my 6 (and a "half") core cities are generating their freight every day, all but one is tapped out of commodities. For a while, one was cranking out hides every day, which would then get about 300 gold & science in my Ally's city (Sioux, Little Bighorn). But now the outlying cities are coming online to crank out the trade. On a small map, however, the trade bonuses are much smaller than the "usual" 3,000 or 4,000 gold per turn. This is likely another reason money seems tight all the time.

Expansion has pretty much gone from the starting island, outward. I've destroyed the English, but the Senate stopped me from taking their last city, London (which was not their capital). Unexpectedly, my ally came in with Cavalry and pummeled London, and when it was empty, I subverted it, thus dispatching the English. I just discovered (via Apollo) that evidently the Greek civ respawned after the English were wiped out. Since I'm so far behind in Wonder construction, I still don't have United Nations to examine them. But right now, the Japs have 4 cities, and everyone else has only one.

Since I've just completed the Apollo program, I'll likely just build a SS and get it launched it soon, then build the 12 remaining wonders. The score is only 1244 with 44 cities, and no civ is a threat. That's about it for now.

You're ahead of my science, Chofritz! I'm going to work on expanding and growing, plus getting a SS toghether and on its way. I've only got 44 cities, and really need to make some transports and several hundred engineers.

See if you can get 5 or 6 frieght cranked out (with commodities) each day, which will really help the gold situation... new cities need lots of gold, and that's what I'm about to gear up for after building a SS. Make sure nothing gets in the way of your new cities growing one citizen per day once you get ready to launch your SS!!

Here is my world in 1 AD:

That animated GIF is great! How did you remove the white rectangles (current map zoom locations) from the GIFs? And how long does it take to make the GIF sequence? I want to give it a try this month .

Well.....it's tricky to make but not too hard. I'll start from the beginning.

First...I play the game regularly and save it at certian intervals, like every 20 turns (at least I will this month. Last 2 months I didn't )
Then when I finish the game I submit the info to Matrix. Then I reload each save game one by and take a screenshot. Then I cut the screen shot down to just include the Mini-Map. The tricky part here is to make sure that the center point is the same in EVERY screenshot and that each picture is the same size. If not then you will notice the picture jumps around a little (like mine did at the end.) The best thing to do is right click on your capital and use that as your center point. The right click should also avoid the white mark that can show up.
Then I resize the images to about 1.5 of normal (depending on the map size)
Then I load the images up in Animation shop in the correct order (so proper naming REALLY helps here. )
Then I play the animation and play with the speed of the frames. This month I think I settled on 3 seconds.
Then save and upload.

So to recap:

[*] Play the game fully and save at regular intervals. (EX: 20 turns)[*] Submit info to Matrix. (So you don't forget later. )[*] Then load up each save one at a time and take a screenshot. Then cut it down to just the mini-map and save it with a name that will help with the order. (EX: gotm9a.gif, gotm9b.gif, etc...)[*] Make sure that the previous step was done properly!! You must have the same center point and image size or your image will "jump" around when animated.[*] Then resize your images so that they are easy to see but NOT HUGE. 1.5 to 2 times bigger will usually do. (Depending on map size.)[*] Load up the pictures in a Gif animator, IN THE PROPER ORDER. (Or you will have a headache later)[*] Then set the speed for the animation. 3 sec per frame should be good.[*] Then save it, upload it and revel in your glory!!!
[/list]

If you need any help I can further explain the steps. I hope this can become a GOTM tradition!! I know it has for me. It will be my 3rd for GOTM9!!!

Ohhh...now I know what you mean. You need to FULLY zoom out on the main map screen. Once you zoom out fully. the white rectangle is outside of the mini map and therefore doesn't show up.

The first one I did took 1 hour 20 minutes. I think the second one was longer but that's for 2 reasons.
1) I was trying to make it perfect but hadn't figured out how. Now I know.
2) My computer kept restarting by itself!! But I'm sure that won't happen to you.

For Comparsion here is my Animated Gif for GOTM 7
He he he... I think once again I must the slowest one. I took time to erase all the 4 civs from Earth. Finally, conquered the world in 1820AD. Something like that. Ok ok, I could do better but I didn't want an early finish, just planned to build all the wonders. Btw, I managed to build all the wonders in one city, Paris. It's surely the first time I did that. And the first time I win by conquest
Actually, you might be surprised but I'm not that a conqueror, just a wandering mongol

Hey, what happened to my post? It seems to have been deleted? I just wanted to say that I finished the game in 1820AD. I was really slow but I for the first time, tried the conquest way.
Strange, either it has been deleted, or this is a bug. It's true that I edited my post... Very annoying, though.

I'm in 500 ad now, I still haven't launched my ss, not even started to build it,. s the ss-score included in your GOTM-score? Or is it just waste of money to build a big SS for 400 points? I still don't know what ss I should build. How long does it take for a 15-1-1-1-1-1 to reach AC?

Yes the points you get from the Space ship are included in the calculation of your GotM score. So if you have nothing better to do - build a big one:D

:sniper:

15-1-1-1-1-1- with Fusion takes 36 years

I'll launch a SS really soon hopefully maybe I should build for 400 points...
I always do. You can do a bit of farming and WLTPD growth while you build it. If you land around 1500 -> 1800, the SS alone can be worth 10 -> 15 to the GOTM score, not including the extra population growth while you're building it.
I waited about 300 years to launch, so I finally arrived in 1512.
I got bored with the farming, so I launched even though the GOTM score was still increasing. I suppose I should have launched in 1200AD, but I wanted to get the GOTM score to at least 100.
I know people will regularly get scores of > 200 and sometimes even > 300, but I consider 100 a respectable, if not top class score. I'm thinking I'll probably just settle for this in most GOTM unless I get a really good start like in GOTM7.

Never had a city with more than 400 sci bottles - how the hell do you manage to run a Democracy with 0 luxuries is what i want to know... (or 0 tax for that matter - dont you need money or something?) plus a lot of other things.

1st off, revenue is being generated mainly by caravans/freights.No problem running deficits.

lets break it down happy wise:

1st 5 citizens content on warlord
2 for temple with Mysticism
4 for cathedral/Mich's with Theology
4 for colliseum with Electronics
2 for JSB

Thats 17 citizens content without a drop of luxuries.

Science city is kept content by Shake's Theatre.
it contains:
Collosus
Cope's
Sir Isaac's
Shake's
market
bank
stock exchange
superhighways
library
university
research lab
3 trade routes
up to 4 terrain specials.Hopefully high trade ones.

Hmm I don't think that I will have the time to finish the game but I'm playing it anyway - for the fun of trying a Warlord game again:D

I'm currently in 1000bc - my powergraph maxed out between 1300bc-1400bc and I have some 50+ cities but that is all I can remember frmo the game - I didn't make a timeline like Starlifter as I'm to lazy for it.... :D

:sniper:

Hell All,

How do you do in order to have so many city aroud 1 AD ?
What the size of the cities around this time. ?
How do you do in order to discover Industrialization around 1 AD ?

It's a lot of question in so few lines but I'm wondering....

Well, I think i need to pratice very very .. very much.
