GOTM - mac specific needs? - paging AlanH

Just wanted to ask if there was any reason I should hesitate to fire up the GOTM this month. I know there were some issues with the blue marble (which I am using) earlier but can I safely assume that us mac folks are officially ok to play? I will of course be playing on adventurer (emperor, are you f'n kidding!) but I just don't want my freshly patched and beautifully running civ 4 to die a fiery death simply from the load.

Go for it!

I'm not sure why I should have to act as your "poison taster" in this regard. There's no reason to suppose any combination of data could result in a meltdown of your Mac or its software. The worst that should happen is the game won't load. However, the customer is always right, so I've loaded the Adventurer start save in my patched version of Civ4, with Blue Marble, and it loads fine.

glad to hear it should work even though I'm likely to get totally creamed, even at adventurer.

not lack of adventure, I just figured if there were gonna be issues I could just play ANOTHER game while I waited for them to be worked out. I'm up to like 3 a week now.

plus with all the bug-hunting since the release I'm ready to just sit back and play.

You're on! If ten Mac players will commit to entering this month's Civ4 GOTM, I'll consider myself shamed into playing it myself. On my hardware, that could actually *take* all month

I'm going to give it a go. I was thinking of going with the normal start, but I have been drawn in by all of the extra goodies you get in the adventurer start. I also realize that I am going to need the help.

Longtime lurker here, willing to not survive until AD. The GOTM will be my first try at the emperor difficulty. I expect it to get ugly.

C'mon Mac players, you know you want to see me struggle through a whole game on my steam-driven Mac (well, the ten to fifty turns it'll take for me to get pwned)

hey alan, as expected I've now lost (although not nearly as badly as I thought I would) and I'm trying to submit but the submit page has a selector for OS and only one choice and it' not mac .

would you be able to do something about that or is there someone else I should get in touch with. secondly, I assume I should wait to submit until that's updated, yes?

Don't worry about it. I'll probably be removing that option anyway, so just leave it at the default.

If anybody is wondering whether to try this, it is actually pretty fun. Even though the difficulty is Emperor, if you try the Adventurer class game you get starting goodies to help you deal with things. Because of the rules about discussing these games I can't say anymore, but I have really enjoyed playing.
