All of the games are going to have the same bugs since they're all from the same start save. Can you just edit the initial save (the second post of this thread) so you don't have to keep editing them.

I won't. Up to this point, Rhye has only indicated that the bug is not persistent. i.e. it can be fixed through editing the save files themselves. Until a critical bug comes up, the current saves should be workable once Rhye edits them.

HOWEVER, it would be of great help to both Rhye and I for you guys to indicate if you are using the Vanilla or Warlords version.

Vanilla and I don't seem to encounter such bugs. So, should I begin playing now, or can I wait?

the bug has nothing to do with vanilla or warlords. It's just that, as a collateral effect of the conquerors event, Spanish and Viking goal of founding a city first may not work (when conquerors take a city before).
The fix to this is not compatible with your current version, so it's easier to fix the saves.

Do as you please, but keep in mind that who submits later would have the knowledge of the previous scores (thus having an edge on the earlier submissions). Maybe an ongoing ranking would be better
