Gotm - May, 2007

I'm not familiar with the Conquerors's event, but does it mean that we have to establish an American city before the Conquerors's event?

No, you have the be the first civilization to make contact with either the Aztecs or the Incas.

Well, I have played it 'till the end. Submitting now. I hope everything will be all right and Whitefire will receive it.

This is the GotM discussion, right? So let us discuss!

I suggest beelining for Conquistadors (first) and Caravels (focus on Libraries and Scientists!), at the same time amassing Catapults, Axemen, and Galleys. The best way would be to destroy England as soon as possible, then France (easier to crush compared to the English, in my experience).

This should be pretty obvious if you're aiming for the 3rd UHV with little difficulty. not to mention the big cities you take will add to your score.

Important note: slavery is both your friend and foe -- I suggest not using it after the conquests to the North and West, otherwise your score would go downhill.

Finally, the Conquerors event is also your friend; it can easily defeat the Aztecs and the Incas alone, if used properly.

Blah, blah, blah, discuss further.

Lesson learned.

Garrison the Incan cities, unless you want them to become indipendat.

Also, I tried a different plan...I beelined to Music, using the GA to hold France to Paris and Brest, then, attacked Rome after amassing Cats etc. The Great Libiary is there, and that alone is worth the trip, along with a few other wonders. The production is great too.

No discussion of your individual games, just "how to maximize your score, defeat the Aztecs and Incas, manage techs, etc" (see OP). But I guess its not specific enough to be "bad."

Well, about garrisoning: that's not really necessary in my experience -- just a few troops at the choke points to protect against barbs. Seriously, the barb Axes are way tougher than the Aztecs and Incas.

Taking on the Romans seems unnecessary to me; even if they do colonize the New World (which they do), its not really a problem of yours. In fact, I think its a good thing -- if either England or France is still alive, then some Roman colonies would serve to be one less area for you to check on.

Yeah, Rhye beefed up American barbarians a little bit...

And I don't think you need to heavy garrison the Incan cities - just keep your stability in check.

Raze all cities but the capitals of Incan and Aztecs, the maintenence kills your economy ( the problem is that in this version you don't get the gold for razing! T_T ).

But that will ultimately lower your score. The gold is irrelevant -- you can get that through tech selling (tech lead not important after taking the New World). Keeping the cities would increase your score, without the risk of flipping or being conquered anytime soon if your stability is good and opposition is crushed.

If you are at war during a plague and you heal before your enemy, stop attacking until he recovers too. You'd catch it again (very annoying)

Am I the only one who does get gold? And yes, I definitely play the last version, and changed nothing in my installation (I reinstalled the mod to erase my previous decorative changes, so I am sure about it) Strange. Does that make the competition unfair to me a bit or what?

And that Summer Palace in Quzco (or Tenochtitlan, as you please) helps your staggering economy much.

I plan to raise my score conquering England, France, Rome, and Greece, so i don't need that cities in America xD ( maybe my plan is too megalomaniac ).

The argument with taking out Rome fast - this is Warlords only I suspect.

Rome has alot of nice Wonders, and is a amazing prduction city, rather useful as Spain does not have great production.

So, Whitefire, did you receive my game? I just want to know.
