Got to have a Middle Ages spoiler with the Vikings! So, did you use your Berzerks for good effect? Where and how? And was this how you fired off a GA or did you build Wonders? My feeling looking at the map was that one of the other continents might give you some problems; did this happen, or was the AI cooperative?

Yes the most distant continent was hard to reach. But since the Aztec/American island had no useful fresh water those two civs were very inferior. Had that been a rich island, it would have taken longer to deal with the Mongols/Otto/Russia continent and to reach domination. But when I did so in 730 AD no civ had gunpowder. I had no intention of going beyond chivalry and invention so it was vital that they did not reach gunpowder.

Vital too was to lead fresh water to the Nidaros area in the beginning. The 4-turner in Nidaros was useful to get a good number of cities and the towns north of Nidaros needed water badly. There was room for very few core towns. In hindsight I wonder if it would have been wise to settle on the food bonus at RCP4 east of Nidaros, to make room for one more core town. I assume that the reason that my game dragged on into the 700s AD was the abundance of salt water in the starting region. In the end the game became really messy with galleys going around here and there to settle islands and nick towns. I probably lost a turn or two by miscalculating the distance to an island west of Korea, losing two settlers on a boat as the receiving galley ended up on an ocean tile. I left Russia untouched and didn't bother with the inner cities of the Ottomans. Korea was left with one city of lucky sods.

I took no notes for this game. It was a good game and once again domination was made harder because of the large islands scattered around everywhere. i'd like a good 20K map next time, so keep throwing in those "domination obstacles."

Hmm.
Cows. Nice.
More cows. Nicer
Dumb undefended neighbours. Very Nice.
Backward nations on the nearest continent. Sweet.
MAJOR LONG FRIGGING BOAT CHAIN TO THE NEXT CONTINENT! AAAARG!!

Middle ages were pretty nice to me. I caught up in techs by education and, it spite of the fact that I thought there would continue to be good tech trading opportunities, the AI got bogged down in wars. They did the entire bottom tier for me but that's about it. I thought I might get a good Diplo victory time, but now I realize it is not going to happen. The 4 AIs on the other side of the world won't stop fighting and no clear winner has emerged. If one Civ had taken over, it might have made a good trading partner. Now I am resigned to researching myself thought the IA.

Also, I still have not received a GL and I have 30+ victories with elite units.

One thing that has worked well with my tech dominance is that I have traded the techs for all the resources, luxuries and gpt I could ever want. No problem building a nice bank.

The Aztecs went crazy and demanded tribute at one point. Might have been my awesome force of 10 cavalry that emboldended him. He wisely decided not to back his bark with his bite. The Aztecs decided to kill America instead. I've coasted most of the game with a 'paper tiger' army.
