>>>THE SAVE<<<

map_1750_BC1.JPG

The two active settlers should probably grab the gems and the iron near niagara.
The slaves at grand river should probably irrigate the game instead of mining it, the forrests will give us plenty of production for now.
Sumeria will trade us the wheel and all their gold for iron working. Not a great trade but we will be able to see where the horsies are and get a city near them nice and quick if they aren't local.
I'm not particuly attached to any of these ideas, just putting them up for discussion.
and the republic gambit looks like it could be close.

edit: anyone feel like making a dot map? (i'm not the best at city placement but will make one to be worked on if you like)

We should trade for The Wheel ASAP. iron Working for The Wheel and some gold isn't a bad trade -- Sumeria will eventually buy Iron Working for even cheaper from one of the AI anyway. Knowing where Horses are is especially important to us, as our UU is the Mounted Warrior; Horses are even more important than Iron for the early game.

First of all : THE SAVE

Pre-Turn: We're weak compared to all other civs. We're in good shape in city numbers,5 is the largest number and we've got 2 active settlers on top of that. I think I have continue expanding aggressively, but also remember to build our military. Let's see how it goes...

Trade IW to wheel + 20gp from Sumeria. We have horses next to Salamanca :D

HBR is also available: English, Mongols and Germans have it. None of them wants to trade it for us.

We do not have escorts for our settlers, I don't see any barbs, but anyway, it's good practice to have escorts for them. Would hurt us too much if they're lost for nothing.

We do not have any curraghs out exploring, I change Alleghny to one to get the possibility to meet the two remaining civs.

Spend 46gp to establish embassy with the Carthagians as we have no idea where they are. They have 1 wine, and 2 units defending capitol with 1 standby settler.

Hit enter.

IBT: Germans demand 24gp, I give it.

1725BC (1): Nothing.

IBT: England demands 22gp. I cave. "We must build our military!"

1700BC (2): We meet the Dutch. They have HBR too. No trades.

As our treasury is being extorted away, I use it to establish an embassy with the Dutch. They're building the Colossus, due in 28turns. They have horses.

1675BC (3): Nothing.

1650BC (4): Oil springs is founded and gems are connected to our empire.

IBT: CoL is discovered, start on Philo, due in 8. Potatofinder (remember Kolumbus and his "souveniers"?) is built to search for hidden treasury island.

1625BC (5): Tell Elizabeth to leave.

1600BC (6): Elizabeth is still in our territory and don't want to leave. Don't want them to declare at this point, so they stay.

Time for some trading: CoL to England for Map making+HBR+55gp. CoL to Sumeria for Mathematics. Mathematics to England for Poly+35gp.

Embassy to England -> they're building colossus due in 11. Full 100% science. No resources, incence as luxury.
Embassy to Mongols -> they're building oracle due in 35. Full 100% science, no resources nor luxury.

IBT: Spanish complete colossus.

1575BC (7): Mauch chunk founded next to iron.

IBT: English advance towards our undefended town. I should have waited for the escort! Potatofinder defends against 2 barb galleys and promotes to veteran.

1550BC (8): Well, there's nothing I can do. There's a spear(Prankster) coming to help, but he'll make only next turn.

IBT: Elizabeth did not attack! Whuh!

1525BC (9): Our first MW attacks barb horseman and dies.

Furs are connected.

1500BC (10): Allen attacks a barb horse and dies. How come those barb are so tough??!

Potatofinder is back in action fully healed and starts anticlockwise our continent. Sees immediately some land. Go check it out!

Notes: We now have some military as well and also embassies in case of a sneak attack. Feel free to kick the existing enemy troops out, we can make some MA's against the stupid attacker, if one exists.

Please use escorts with settlers, otherwise we endanger our expansion. I could not build any settlers as our military was non-existent and there were way too many foreign civs wandering around.

Philosophy is due in 2, and no one has it yet. Looking good. We're the tech leader with England and Dutch. Soon we'll be there alone.

Keep building MW as when we hit rebublic, we can start a quick war to get some additional land (from England, that's my suggestion). GA with 8 - 10 towns is a good choice.

lurker's comment: Is somebody using a different patch?

Would seem to be the most obvious explanation....

Well, I'm using 1.22 also and I tested the save. It works nicely on my computer. I uploaded it on the server again and also the autosave for that beginning turn is here:

THE SAVE

AUTOSAVE

I hope either one of these works!

Good luck!

1500 BC (60) - Or pre-flight, as some call it. I decide to change Allegheny from a spearman to a catapult. And Niagara falls goes to worker instead of spearman, with Mauch Chunk doing the reverse. I feel like we needed the worker before the spearman, with no settlers in production. I know changes aren't supposed to made for the most part, hope I didn't do anything wrong.

1475 BC (61) - Time for a change of plan. I had switched Niagara Falls to emphasize production so it would get the extra shield on growth and finish the worker the same turn. So the governer put the next citizen on the flood plain. Time to change plans again. Oil Springs switches to worker, and Niagara Falls back to spearman. I think with the current state of our empire, I'll try and set up gozpel as best as I can. Potatofinder spots a one tile island with iron on it.

1450 BC (62) - I think the Dutch may have gotten Philosophy the same turn as us, because we can trade them Republic, not Philosophy. I don't know, and I guess it doesn't matter all that much since we are the ones that got the free tech. Currency in 17 at 0 gpt. For barbslinger, I name Salamanca's MW Elvis. Whew! Saved from being creative for the time being. Establish embassy with the Germans. The Mongols are encroaching on our lands, and may be next on the chopping block after the English.

IT - Hmm. The Dutch declared on the English and immediately razed a town, I think. I wasn't paying especially close attention but it looks like a spot of orange was erased from the map.

1425 BC (63) - That stupid barb horseman delayed it for a couple turns, but our (German) workers are finally improving the tiles around Grand River. I had considered moving them elsewhere, then I just decided to move them to the plains southeast, but the horse followed. So I wasted a turn or two.

1400 BC (64) - I sell Math to the Mongols for 52 gold, since everyone else but the Mongols have Math anyway. And the English definitely lost something, since I now see ruins, but I don't know if that was what they lost before. But they are down to their capital and four cities.

1375 BC (65) - Settler in Salamanca, start MW. We can build MW, spearman, and settler every 8 turns. Ears is built in Niagara Falls, settler started there. I think the just finished settler will go claim a spot close to where the Dutch just razed an English city.

1350 BC (66) - Spearman renamed Eve. Maybe someone will name a spearman Adam and they can be together. At this point I remember that we are still in Despotism. Oops! I think with out city size and luxes, we can handle this without any starvation. Sorry gozpel, but you'll have a turn left in anarchy before we get into republic. Though, now that I think about it, I am glad I waited until we had that settler, because otherwise it might have been awhile before we could have claimed the spot on the river with two wheats.

1325 BC (67) - Elvis kills some Zapotecs and gets us 25 gold.

1300 BC (68) - German archer, and some barbs, came into view.

1275 BC (69) - Germans took care of one barb for us, and a Dutch archer took care of the other.

1250 BC (70) - One turn left on revolution, so I guess I miscounted. I have never been sure when the change happens, and if it would be safe to move citizens around in a way that would cause disorder if we stayed in anarchy but would be fine in republic. So maybe we will waste some production. With so few cities, support costs are going to be nasty. The MW-spearman-settler thing I mentioned was thrown off, so Salamanca should probably be changed to settler before it grows to size 7. The settler pair near the wheat could stop where it is, though I had planned on one northwest to claim both wheats now, but gozpel can do as he sees fit. Don't know that there is much else to report at this time. Not much of a setup for war on England, plus it looks like anything we would capture would autoraze anyway, and we don't have the settlers at this time to raze and replace.

Does anyone know if gozpel was going away for a few days?
No idea, but if he doesn't up soon, then he's considered skipped :p

Maybe these messages bring him out of his hiding place

:scan: Where are you?? :scan:

lurker's comment: I have had to skip, and then drop altogether, the hosts in a couple of games I have been in. Impolite? Perhaps. Necessary for my peace of mind? Definitely.

That said, I doubt Gozpel is one who needs to be skipped. More likely, he doesn't realize it's his turn, or hasn't had a chance to post a "got it". He was online last night at about 9pm EST. He lives in Australia (IIRC). I would venture to guess you'll hear from him tomight. ;)

Maybe a little reminder for him:
Gozpel - UP
Nem - On Deck

(Sorry if that's stepping on your toes, Goz)
