Goz5 - Random Rumble

Preturn- We look good.

IT- The Russians must be upset that we're copying their worker tactics, as they declare and sneak attack Iznik. Their warrior attacks across the river and dies. Their archer kills our spear and takes the city.

T1 1325

I take out a Russian settler pair, scoring two slaves. I have three warriors in range of Iznik. If it gets no reinforcements, I'll try and retake it.

IT- zzz

T2 1300

Best defender of Iznik is a 2/3 archer. I attack. Reg warrior wins losing 1 hp and retakes the city. Two others move into city to fortify it.

IT- Russian warrior comes out of the fog to the south.

T3 1275

Nothing much.

IT- Two Rusky arhcers are ready to attack next turn.

T4 1250

I attack one of the archers. Our vet warrior is redlined, but he kills it.

IT- Our warrior is killed.

T5 1225

Not much. A spear arrives at Iznik.

IT- A Russian archer dies attacking Iznik.

T6 1200

A warrior is next to Istanbul. We're defending with a spear. Unless the RNG craps on us, we're good.

IT- warrior doesn't attack

T7 1175

We now have two swords on the scene.

IT- Things get much more interesting. Two russian swords and an archer appear next to Iznik.

T8 1150

This is going to be interesting. We have two spears and two warriors to fend off two swords, an archer and a warrior.

IT- Two swords kill two spears. A warrior is killed by an archer. We're left with one warrior to defend against several swords.

We learn Philosophy, and get no free tech. This one gets better by the minute.

T9 1125

With 4 swords and 2 archers attacking next turn, defending Iznik is futile. Thankfully, Russia is willing to talk. First, I sell Philo to India for Mathematics and The Wheel. Then I go back to Russia, and in peace we exchange Philo, 50g and 5gpt for Ceremonial Burial and Warrior Code.

IT- zzz

T10 1100

Not too much. The Russians have poached the wines south of Istanbul.

Summary

Well, at least we didn't lose a city permanently. Its a good thing Russia was willing to talk that last turn, I was about to go with a Scorched Earth policy at Iznik.

Good job on keeping Iznik. The declaration didn't come as a surprise after we found the town too close to Moscow :) The trading didn't hurt us either, too bad we missed out on the free tech though.

Let's continue on the cityplan we already have and found those sites that are available.

1 - gozpel
2 - grahamiam
3 - CarlosMM
4 - Bede
5 - Kaiser Berger -> Just played
6 - Sir Bugsy -> UP

very well done with Iznik! I knew it was a risky placement, but usually one can't lose much here - at most the city in question, as in ancient Ais are suually willing to talk.

Pre-flight – 1100 BC – Check our :smoke: supplies and see that our workers are running low. Order some more :smoke:

City management looks good. Maybe our workers could hook up some luxes some time soon. :smoke:

Early - Iznik: spear=>barracks
Istanbul: sword=>settler
Edrine: settler=>settler
Celts build MoM.

Middle - Indians beat us to a coastal gem city. Found Gemskudar
Indian settler pairs are popping up every where.
Germans build Zeus
Celts build the Lighthouse
Bursa: sword=>sword
Istanbul: settler=>sword

Late - A red boat sails into view. Meet Carthage. Sell him Math for Myst &2g (full price.) He also has HBR & MM. The Indian settler pairs become a pain in the butt.
Carthage drops off a settler pair next to our settler. We beat them by one turn. The Indians start back home. Found Furzmit
Edrine: settler=>sword
Gemskudar: warrior=>temple

After Action - The settler should go SE-SE of where he stands. The flip risk on Iznik is rising. Might want to change the barracks to a temple. Although we will probably want to go capture Moscow as soon as the peace is up.

Pre-turn - Swap Iznik's barracks to temple. Swap Furzmit to curragh.

825bc - Wines are connected.

800bc - Bursa sword -> sword

Swap Edrine to settler.

Yekaterinburg's borders expands to pinch our newly roaded horses.

775bc - Istanbul sword -> sword

Aydin founded -> worker

Russia founded another town in the tundra

Carthagian settler-pair is heading for the Russian S of us, so I tell them to leave our territory and they declare. We've got 2 slaves and warhappiness.

730bc - Edrine settler -> barracks

Gems are connected too.

710bc - Russia starts the Great Wall.

670bc - Istanbul sword -> spear
Iznik temple -> barracks
Furzmit curragh -> barracks

650bc - Rotten Cathy learnt Literature, I turn off research.

We need a couple of spears in Furzmit and Gemskudar to counter carthagian surprise-parties, so next player can change current builds to whatever.

Settler is ready to settle by the coast.

We have 6 swords in Iznik now, I don't think that's enough for a war against Russia, so continue the buildup for that. We need that war sooner or later.

And the peace-deal can be renegged with Russia if we want to wait a few more turns before a war. There are still a few russian units standing in our territory, se we can tell them to leave when it suits us.

Catapults anyone?

Carthage doesn't want to talk yet.

grahamiam is supposed to be back today, so we give him a chance. If he doesn't respond until tomorrow, it's Bede's turn, because Carlos is away too.

I think :crazyeye:

you think correctly!

I will be away and MOST PROBABLY unable to play for almost three weeks. If otherwise (i.e. net access @ hotel) I will so post.

grahamiam: let's get our game back on speed in that case, too! You know where to email to ;)

sent last night ;) pm me if you can't see it and i'll resend.

however, i was unable to get to this sg due to a fussy 1 yr old that was getting too used to sleeping with his mommy while we were away last week. try again tonight (up in 3 tonight, probably more by the end of the day, and we've all been there i think :lol: )

Preflight check: Switch Gemskuder to spear (due in 1T). Leave all else alone but it looks like we could use a bit of culture atm as well.

IBT: Russia offers peace and I got nothing to show for it.
Gemskudar spear -> temple

T1: 630BC Found Antalya -> worker.
Buy Horses and HBR from India for 4gpt and 217g.
Move a sword down to help Antalya as a carthage galley showed us S of there but a Russian worker is in the way, roading our sugar.

IBT: Istanbul spear -> spear; Bursa sword -> horse

T2: 610BC nada

T3: 590BC A Carth warrior near Aydin causes our workers to flee into town.

IBT: Aydin worker -> temple

T4: 570BC Move sword down to take care of pesky warrior. Rename worker, hit shift-A, and he sits in town.

IBT: Istanbul spear -> horse; Edrine barracks -> sword

T5: 550BC Near Aydin: sword kills warrior (2/4) to let the workers loose.

T6: 530BC

IBT: German’s complete ToA. Carthage lands a warrior between Aydin and Furzmit.

T7: 510BC Use spear from Istanbul to kill Carthage warrior

T8: 490BC India and Russia are really researching now. They both get CoL and Currency this turn. Was going to turn on research for Republic after buying CoL for 6gpt and 195g but it will still take 42T to complete. Therefore, I keep it turned off.

Istanbul horse -> horse; Iznik barracks -> horse; India completes Great Wall. Carthage lands another warrior near Furzmit.

T9: 470BC Horse retreats from Carth warrior near Fuzmit (2/3); spear kills it.

IBT: Bursa horse -> sword

T10: 450BC nada.

Dingy is moving S to find the lane that Carthage is using to get here. Maybe we can meet more civ’s and the tech costs will become more reasonable.

We could use more cat builds but I have a couple of towns on Temples just to help with the overall culture. Feel free to override. May also want to hire a scientist in Edrine after it grows.

Carthage first showed up coming directly at Antalya from the west

What do they say about peace? We might swing a deal with some luck.

I see it, I got it. I play it today.

Blessed are the peace makers......

they say something about high tech prices again :) tech costs are too high due to our limited knowledge of others. besides all the military, we could us 1 or 2 galleys once MM comes in to go explore.
imho, it looks like india will be the beast on this landmass, though i think that's pretty easy to see from the pic.

450
Cathage will make peace and trade Map Making for Code of Laws +12g+12gpt. India will offer Map Making for a whole bunch of cash and gpt and since Ganhdhi's two little villes to the east are the next target, I think, take the deal with Carthage.

The citizens of Erdrine get unhappy, so I hire a scientist and start a temple. We'll have furs online in four turns and maybe the temple at Erdrine will get the horses back from Catherinetown.

Shifting a garrison warrior from Gemskudar to Erdrine reveals Chittagong SE of Gemskudar.

430
Carthage used our money to buy Literature.

Jolly workers scamper about somewhat aimlessly.

Curragh reveals Carthage's borders in the tundra south of Smolensk.

410
Russian troops head north. Vladivostok's borders expand towards Aydin.

Curragh finds the Carthaginian town of Hadrumetum in the tundra and a very narrow landbridge connecting the Arctic wastes to Smolensk

390
Furs hook up and entertainer stipend goes to zero.

370
Sailing Carthage and thinking I need to build a galley but am wanting culture more....

350
Carthaginian tundra is a peninsula connected at Smolensk

350-250
Not much else happens. Temple at Erdrine makes everybody happy but the expansion only pull in flood plain, no horses.

Russians have moved a single spear into our territory, probably heading for their southern colonies.

Our neighbors are so culturally dominant right now that the border expansions from temples aren't worth much...There is a handy litlle stack at Izmit, and Istanbul is now at 10spt for 3 turn swords or horsemen.

Peace with Catherine has run out, so now might be the time....
