Goz7 - The Squeeze Rematch

What happened to the culture in New Samarra? The total culture is 10, but the temple is missing. Did the temple get destroyed in bombardment? I really hope we didn't voluntarily disband a culture building.

FYI - The Maya are either mobilized, or no longer the #1 threat. At the moment Egypt is growing faster then the Maya.

We have one other consideration in the war with the Maya. They appear to be a tech laggard. Do we want to destroy a potential 2 for 1 partner?
 
We need saltpeter and coal. We could get both by attacking Maya. I would prefer to get Saltpeter by attacking Egypt however.

WW will totally kill us when it goes to 100%. We will either have to switch govt or go for peace at that point. I think we should get the horses (and maybe Valencia) and then make peace.

I would say at least 20 turns of peace after the war. We can try building lots of culture but that costs us money and slows science if we don't get more land.
 
if we build universities, that should help science.

We'll need some transportation to land on the Egyptian island.
 
If New Samarra already built its temple but lost it, then I really don't understand the problem with its placement. If we still had the temple, we could just rush a library soon, and when the twenty turns Greebley mentioned to wait on warring again are up, we have culture on the saltpeter island.

He got family stuff to worry about, so he might just have forgot to post I got it. Let's give him another day to respond and if he can't play we move on.

My comment was due to him posting more then once in the thread, but I can't find the got it.
 
Sorry guys, I didn't see I was up. I'll have it turned around fairly quickly. A lot of time between nursing duties.
 
Pre-flight – We don’t have a navy. It will be hard to get to the Egyptian saltpeter island without one. With our variant with would be difficult anyway since New Samarra doesn’t have any culture. I waste one shield switching it to a library. WW really isn’t bad.

IBT – Lose two pikes to the Mayans. Get the Pentagon message.

1. 1455 – Bombard and kill four cavs.

IBT – Lose an MDI.

2. 1460 – Kill several invaders.

IBT – Portugal declares on the Egyptians. Lose a wounded pike. Cleo builds Hoover’s.

3. 1465 - Fall one attacker short at Murcia. There is a wounded cav left

4. 1470 - Found New Sippar on the Mayan frontier. Murcia is razed, collect 8 slaves.

5. 1475 – Found New Izibia near Murcia’s ruins. March on Valencia.

IBT – A rifle is dropped off in our rear.

6. 1480 – Kill the rifle. Found New Carchemish. Valencia is razed at the cost of one cav. We need to rush some culture so I drop science.

IBT – Cleopatra demands spices, I decline. So now we’re at war with the Egyptians.

7. 1485 – We must have had some nice gpt payments to Egypt cause now we have 330gpt coming in. I kill two more Mayans then get Corporation for peace and 48gpt.
8. 1490

IBT – An Egyptian fleet sails from Rio. Cleo starts building the UN.

9. 1495 – Bombard the Egyptian fleet to red.

IBT – We lose our Portuguese ivory, and Henry won’t renew for anything. Mostly because he only has one source now. Cleo sails her fleet back to Rio.

10. 1500 – Found New Mari.

After Action – We should plan on renewing the Mayan war in 20 turns or so. I think we can press northward to get the coal. We may have to plan a trip to destroy the Egyptian Spaceship in a hundred turns or so.

The frontier at New Samarra will expand in about ten turns or so, which would allow building on that island. Of course we’ll need to raze Rio first.

Correct. I have said this at least twice, as it was my decision to put it where it is (one I still stand by).
 
1500 AD
A modern AI that is close to marines, and we have a lot of naked coastal cities. This could get tricky.

I buy a new WM for $45. I ship the Maya Spices, Gems and $15 to pick up 3 workers. I ships spices and gems to Portugal to save 2 turns on RP. We actually have rubber. :dance:

I start on Nationalism to head toward Espionage. At this point we need to watch Egypt winning by space.
Replaceable Parts have little trade value to the Maya. :(

IMO we need more shields. I cancel Heroic Epic for a factory. The Pentagon becomes a factory.

I swap all taxmen to scientist. I prefer 3 beakers to 2 dollars.
I would rather have irrigation to grow our cities to six 6 specialist. Not to mention fixing the core. An example of my complaint is 15 workers clearing damage on a hill in a hopelessly corrupt city.


1510 AD
I got Eridu from 12 shields to 23 shields before corruption. Zariqum gains enough to justify a factory. This is why I mentioned fixing the core.

Horseville is formed.
(IT) The Maya and Portugal sign a peace treaty.


1515 AD
Golden hills is formed.


1525 AD
(IT) Nationalism completes, and Espionage is the next science project.


1530 AD
I actually have some military action. 3 tanks and 1 infantry landed on a mountain by Khorsabad. The only cost to us is a tired cavalry army.


1535 AD
I start fortifying the workers, as they can't do more until we get coal back.


1545 AD
Egypt at least has rocketry, as a mobile sam is part of the latest landing.

I decide on an army, as we need real firepower with tow infantry in play.


1550 AD
Egypt is back again with a stack of 6 tanks. I get a new elite cavalry from killing this stack.

Summary:
After this turn I truly realize how much of a MM nightmare the squeeze is.

I really don't know what to do in this game. Egypt is a monster that is a space launch threat and has tanks. They are eating Portugal alive. IMO we lose if Egypt isn't trimmed big time.

The Maya suck and still have rifles. The Maya won't be much of an ally.

I can't figure out where the Mayan coal is going. They have 2 sources, but none for trade. We really need the coal to fix the gaps in our rail-net.

We still haven't build Wall Street. We could really use the income help. Please complete some stock exchanges.

I think we should Ally with Maya vs Egypt and get an ROP. Then send the armies and Cav across Mayan territory to hurt Egypt.

Note that Arnham (the city building the UN) is right next to the Netherlands. Allying with the Netherlands vs Egypt after we are hitting their north front might distract or slow the UN build.

The other advantage of all the alliances is that Egypt won't win via the UN.

[Edit: Mayans don't seem to have Refining yet so they are much less a threat. Slowing down Egypt will give us much more time to go for our 100k win.

The Maya have rifles as defenders. Egypt has tanks for offense. Egypt would eat the Maya alive. I do NOT want to ally with the Maya. They are useless as an ally.
 
I think an ROP without an alliance might be a way to get our troops to the front.
 
1550 AD (0) - I can't think of much reason not to ally the Mayans against the Egyptians. At the very least, they will eat units for us. They have rubber and RP, so the argument that they only have rifles is out the window. Get the RoP and alliance, and a cavalry that scouts their border cities shows Infantry, just as one would expect of a civilation with rubber and RP.

MM to get Espionage without waste while also speeding up builds.

IT - Gee, wasn't expecting this. Guess I should have signed them in too.

1555 AD (1) - Start Intelligence Agency in Nineveh.

1560 AD (2) - Raze Logrono. No signs of Mayans losing ground to Egypt.

1580 AD (6) - Not too much in the last few turns. Still no territory exchanged between Maya-Egypt. We raze Rio Janiero.

1585 AD (7) - Egypt finally took Bonampak from Egypt.

Egypt is making some small gains agaisnt the Maya. On the positive side, we haven't seen much from Egypt other than a stack of tanks they dropped off on saltpeter island. I moved a few units over near where the Egyptians are, but haven't done much to attack. I don't want to lose anything big, and leaving anything in tank range is a sure way to lose units. Hopefully the Maya will break the alliance and sign peace soon, while neither side has gained or lost much.
