Graf Zeppelin German WWII Carrier

Not sure how long I can keep this up.

Anyways, the only German Carrier in WWII.. do not think it was even completed.

The texture is definitely the weak point, I was not able to use a Firaxian one as on my last two units, so had to make do. And that is were I am still really learning this business..

This use the destroyers animations (I was going to use that to animate a couple guns on this thing, but it did not all line up)

This is certainly a GREAT model!!!

I like it even better then the Type-VII U-Boat.



P.S.
The Graf Zeppelin was NEVER COMPLETED... she reached 95% completion status, but interference for aircraft from Goering, Hitler's loss of faith in the surface navy, technical difficulties on a ship-type the Germans had no experience with and wartime priorities all put completion of the carrier on the backburner. Just before completion, shipyard work was abandoned, the guns stripped for coastal defense and she was used to STORE WOOD!

An inglorious end to a ship that could have shown great potential (if only she could have sortied with the Bismarck and provided air-cover!

Personally I think the English HMS Dreadnought looks nothing like the American USS Arizona.

That "Modern Units" model (HMS Dreadnought) you speak-of is no more the Arizona then the Graf Zeppelin is the USS Essex.

Other then the fact they both have some big guns and sail on water, the similarities end there.

Besides... the USS Arizona is a little chubbier then the Dreadnought.

It probably had something to do with the turrets on both being a little more rounded than some.

Well if you had a model of the HMS Dreadnought that you built sitting on your wall right next to it, I don't think you'd be going around telling everyone the Arizona looks "fairly similar" to the HMS Dreadnought...

USS Arizona...
4 centerline triple-mount turrets... superfiring

HMS Dreadnought...
4 centerline dual-mount turrets (non-superfiring) and 2 dual-mount wing turrets

(that's four tripple turrets in a straight line as opposed to six dual turrets center and wing)

Silhouette/Shape:

USS Arizona...
Single smokestack, two large gun control towers

HMS Dreadnought...
Dual smokestacks, one largegun control tower


Meh... they look just alike!

It would take a lot of work (kinda like completely redoing the entire model from scratch) to get the Dreadnought to look like the Arizona.
