Granary - How much bonus food is needed to make it a priority?

I think the general answer would be 2 tiles.

So in my mind, 2 tiles allows for a food boost significant enough to allow a production focus, keeping timings on core strategy buildings/units stay in line or even better.

Thanks for the insights everyone! :)

Usually I build a granary pretty soon. Even before a worker. As the food (and indirectly production) bonus of a granary is immediate. A worker has first to improve a tile.

So in general my startsequence is: Scout > Monument > Granary > Worker >Settler

A granary should not be built just prior to a settler, because then the food bonus won't enable the city to grow first.

For other cities I build it also pretty soon: after city walls.

I always build it very soon if i havent any food resources. (happens very often). Also if i have at least one wheat/deer/banana. I think +3 food to start is also amazing. Of course if i have many food tiles, it aint so important.
