I have this problem on the demo as well as the full game.

The background of the main menu is a bit messed up, with parts of the picture slightly skewed to one side.
The same happens on some icons in the game. It's the worked tiles in the city screen, the buildings, units etc. in the tech tree (the sub icons, not the tech itself).

Also some of the pictures the game uses are not fit to their frame i.e. the advisors and the wonders. I don't know if the issues are related.

I've taken some screenshot, the album is found under:

and the pics are in the spoiler.

The problem has been reported by user How_In_The_What in the following thread http://forums.civfanatics.com/showthread.php?t=382768

I reposted it because he posted another issue which the answers focused on.

I use Windows 7, an ATI 1950 Pro with 256 Ram (Dx 9), Driver Version 10.2 and an Intel E4400 which is overclocked to 2,4 ghz and 2 GB RAM. (Please note that neither the graphics driver nor the overclocking are the cause of the problem.

I downloaded from steam, defragged the files and when I verify the integrity of the files I get 1 error and the message, that it will be downloaded again. When I check again after that I get the same error.

Also note that the game runs fine on medium settings on a standard size map. No CTD or an other bothers, just the graphic glitch.

Please add something if you have the same problem or know the solution.

Cheers,

Just wanted to chime in and say I have the same problem with the strange glitches on the title screen background. I'm running on Windows 7, GeForce 7800 GT with 256 MB RAM (Dx9), latest drivers (258.96), Intel Core 2 Duo E6400 2.13GHz, and 2 GB RAM. My game also runs fine with no CTDs.

I have the same problem with the main menu background image.

Dell Precision 670
Intel Xeon CPU 3.4 GHz (dual processors)
2.75 GB RAM
NVIDIA Quadro FX 3450/4000 SDI

Same exact issue here with main menu, in-game icons (for tech, especially), and illustrations of social policies and wonders are "off-kilter." It's like certain pixels are "shifted" or garbled, but the rest is fine.

Also, not sure if it's related, but when I roll my mouse over certain menu items, like new tech research, or social policies, the map "redraws" itself, and I have to scroll around the entire map each time for it to catch up and not be so laggy.

I can understand if the map has to redraw every now and then to keep up with changes, but putting your cursor over an item for a tool tip shouldn't cause the game to jam up.

Specs:

Windows XP
2 GB RAM
AMD Athlon 64 X2 Dual Core Processor 4200+
ATI Radeon X1950 PRO Graphics Card

Exactly the same problem here (also with an x1950 pro). If anyone could provide a way to fix this, I would be happy :). I really don't want to wait for a patch or anything..

I had this, too with a X1950 pro (256MB). The game ran fine without any crashes. However I now have bought a new card and everything is fine now.

Ah, very good, this at least narrows down the problem a little. I guess it has something to do with the architecture of the GC then.

It saves us all from testing integrity of gamefiles or redownloading the game.

Thank you for your post, markh.

Would you mind going over to the 2K forums and posting the information there? Or alternatively one of us doing it?

The link How_In_The_What provided seems dead, here's the (hopefully working) link to his post addressing this problem:

I do not have an account there. I do not mind if you forward my post there. I hope you get the issue solved.

Sorry to burst your bubble guys, but I'm getting the same exact graphic hiccups and I have two Nvidia Geforce 7600 Gs's in SLI-mode. I think I'm going to try re-downloading because my internet connection broke about halfway through the download.

So I'm guessing it's either the game files or DX9 (which is what I'm using)... however, I'm getting a GTS 450 (nVidia) that will use DX11 so I'll repost the results of that switch-out. Good to see others are having the same problem.

I've had the same trouble on my 1900xt.
The solution seems to be a new graphics card, I just upgraded to a Nvidia 460 and the game now runs smoothly with proper icons. I would have waited for a driver but as the 1900 series are on ATI's legacy support list I'm not expecting a new driver any time soon.

Yeah, for what it's worth, I did re-install the "up to date" legacy drivers from ATI with no luck.

I see that folks with other cards are having the same issue, but I think it's quite a coincidence that most of them are stemming from the X1950. Perhaps there's something common to all these cards that's causing the problem?

Will keep an eye on the support thread. Thanks guys, and good luck!

nVidia GTS450 came today... it was definitely the card (or DX9) the new video card made it all better (and so much more pretty!). I definitely recommend it. (and it was pretty cheap).

I do not think that it was a DX9 issue as I run the game in DX9 mode, too with the new card (ATI HD 5770) and all the graphics are fine now.

I've just installed a geforce 8800GT which i borrowed from a friend, and everything runs smooth now. I can even run most graphic settings on high now even though it's still an old card.

This is so funny. I was gifted a 8800 GT two days ago.

It was broken and screwed up my Windows 7 installation.

Everything doesn't run smooth now.

I think I'll just go for a 27" iMac with bootcamp...

Just adding my voice, I get the same glitches with a X1950 Pro 512 MB on XP SP3 2 GB RAM. (there's a similar thread here)
