Graphical Quibbles...

Thanks Lord Tirian! I'll try to release a v16 as soon as I can.
Cool! :D Wondering, whether you're interested in more models after the release? Animating the rover got me into the mood to do more stuff, I'd really like to try my hand at animating the Former (since it just an unit you see so often). Could fix its proportions a bit at the same time (the original SMAC Former is a bit flatter and wider, I think).
Same version. ;)
Can't you rename the existing directory, install the new one and just swap between the working and the experimental version by renaming the one you want to use to its proper name and the other one to "Planetfall v15_notused" or something - moot point anyway, once v16 comes out! :)

Cheers, LT.

You don't even need to rename the one you want to use. You can have umpteen differently named working Planetfall variations.

Animations for the Former would certainly be cool. :) For the Aquaformer too by the way.

Cool, working on it. I attached screenshots of both the Former and Aquaformer - since I need to have things to animate, I have to play around with the models anyway - better show the modified versions before doing all animations etc.

The former model isn't much modified, I adjusted the proportions a bit, gave it a mode detailed drill arm (better to animate) and added the two little black exhaust pipes at the back (which can also seen on the original former) and gave it a bulldozer-like front (which is also hinted at in the facblt_sm.pcx). I think that one is ready to be rigged and animated.

Still working on the seaformer; I like the front section more than the current seaformer's, since it still has the classic former shape, but I need to do something with the aft section. Not quite sure what, though, feel like I want something better than just slapping a reactor module on it.

Any input - sorry for being slow, Christmas planning and upcoming holidays make private life and work a lot busier!

Cheers, LT.

I agree it needs an aft section. Unfortunately I have no ideas for stuff other than a reactor.

I'll have to check how the fungicidal and super sea former looked in SMAC. Mayhaps there's some inspiration there.

By the way, I am not dead yet! ;)

Just didn't had time to do anything Planetfall-related on anything over Christmas and January with the holidays and lots of work - and a small creative slump afterwards. :(

Had a couple of ideas for a "heavy" foil chassis, though, and will work on them over the weekend; that chassis could work as a base for the aquaformer and also for the transport (which is a WWII landing boat now) and the sea colony pod (which looks fairly bland).

Cheers, LT.

..and putting my foot where my mouth is and so on, here's a picture of the current heavy foil chassis, on its own and with the former and colony module.

Not finished with the texture yet (need to find something that goes well with the different options), but tried to get some design cues from SMAC and mix it with something that hopefully evokes heavy industrial machinery:

I used the hovercraft/foil design itself, made a broader bow section, trying to keep the aerodynamic shape most SMAC units have by making it vaguely arrow-shaped. And after much tinkering, I decided to... make a reactor aft section, but put the emphasis on "heavy", so I added four reactor modules, looks a lot better than a lone module and actually gives a sense of scale. Also added two little bridge-structures, since SMAC always had cockpits on almost everything - plus, it helps with the sense of scale, making these things look big.

Still tinkering with some other bits, but I'm fairly pleased with the overall look & feel, though quite probably a bit too far from the classic SMAC designs.

EDIT: What mostly bothers me, is that the former module looks more like a land former sitting on it, not like actually being part of the ship - the colony pod integrates a lot better.

Cheers, LT.

I think it's because of the smaller size of the former module (in respect to the colony pod module).
Btw, nice detail on the double cockit. :goodjob:

A reply at last! :mischief:

While your models look more refined/finished/detailed than the ones currently in-game, I must say I prefer the more rounded/elliptical look of the current foil chassis. Also like Geo says, I think the relative size of the module vs the chassis is better in the current models than yours. :scared:
