Graphics automates with each restart (to low)

Hi. I just bought a new, very high-end system. When I launch Civ IV - Complete, it tells me that the system does not meet the recommendations, and sets my graphics to an extreme low. My system should be capable to run the settings on max (it does so with games such as The Witcher and BioShock, for example). I have updated drivers for all hardware.

OS: Windows Vista 64-bit Service Pack 1

CPU: Intel Core 2Quad Q9450 2.6GHz 12mb S-775

Mainboard: ASUS P5E Intel x38 S-775

RAM: 4GB DDR2 PC6400 800MHz Corsair (4x1GB)

Graphics Card: 512MB Palit ATI HD4870 DDR5 PCI-E

Harddisk: 500GB Samsung 7200rpm 16MB SATA2

PSU: 650W Corsair TX CMPSU-650TXEU 120mm

CPU Cooler: Arctic Cooling Alpine 7 S-775

DVD-burner: 20x Lite-On DVD/RW DL Light Scribe

the min specs warning check has become a tad trigger happy in the recent patches - open civilizationIV.ini and set the following:

; Don't show minimum specification warnings
HideMinSpecWarning = 0

to

; Don't show minimum specification warnings
HideMinSpecWarning = 1
