Graphics problems with the latest BNW patch

Hey guys,

I've been having some graphics problems with BNW recently that make the game unplayable!

So I started up Civ 5 BNW and decided to start up a new game, it started up normal but as I clicked Begin Your Journey my FPS dropped significantly and the tile graphics changed to some weird single colour flat tiles, screenshot here if you can notice how some of the tiles are not displaying properly.
My settings are still the same as before the patch and this is on DX11, all medium settings with textures set to high (tried low with no change), windowed at 1440x900.

Another problem I encountered is that if I run the game in DX11 at full screen, everything becomes jittery looking/vibrates in its place and becomes really straining for the eyes, but this issue's been the same for months now, so I'm starting to think it might be my own external monitor. I also just found out that running the game fullscreen on the few smaller resolutions that have 75Hz refresh rate seems to solve this problem, but there's no higher rates than 59 or 60Hz for all the higher-end resolutions, so I'm not sure what's going on there.

Setup - I run a Lenovo Ideapad Y570 - Specs found here http://www.cnet.com/laptops/lenovo-ideapad-y570/4505-3121_7-34642475.html with an ASUS VS248 21" external HDMI monitor.

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Is it overheating?

Is it overheating?

Nope, it's got a pretty good cooling system which provides good air flow from inside the laptop to outside. I've also got a cooling deck for it with 3 fans underneath that work all the time. I don't think it can overheat in 3-5 minutes of running the game, it's never overheated that much on me.

If you are using an external monitor and the LCD is closed on the laptop, that may hinder air flow. If you are checking the temperature though while it is running, then the LCD closed may not be an issue.

The LCD is not running but it's open to help airflow and temperature levels stay at a good level. :D

It says that the maximum resolution is 1366 x 768 ( HD ). Going over that may cause it to be unstable.

That would probably have been the case if it was only a problem while running on the external monitor, but the tile graphics and the framerate drops persist even when running only on the laptop screen itself.

Then your card has developed an issue.

With the new patch my game has become very slow and jerky. Also it crashes my computer and I have to restart. Also it wants to upgrade every time I try to start a game.
I don't think it is a video card problem. As everthing was working fine yesterday. And I can play other games.

You can always delete everything under My Games in windows. Make copies of any saved games you want to a different folder.

After that verify local files via steam. If that does not fix it, then it could still be your graphics card. It could work just fine in certain modes, but when maxed out still become unstable.

Tried that, also tried installing the latest nVidia Beta driver (326.80) and that didn't do much, I lowered all the settings to low, including Fog of War quality and that caused the game to run as fast as it used to run before, with no major FPS drops for the most part.

Could it be the Fog of War giving me problems?

You will probably have to wait for the patch update, or next patch, to resolve the problem. You can always try lowering different settings, to see which one works best.
