Graphics/Sound Problems? - Please post your DX Logs.

My problem is that when I reached the modern era, the Wonder movies nor the victory movies would play. The pop-up would come up and the sound would play (sometimes stutter), but there would be just a blank screen in the movie window. Any suggestions?

I've loaded the game and have got no deserts, peeks, or oceans, but I have waves, rivers, and pigs. I just today got all of the leaders to load, they where just eye balls and acessories. Please help.

I have installed the 1.52? patch and this rectified the fact that the animated characters appeared transparent! They were just floating teeth and eyes beforehand but now this is okay, many thanx!

Now it's just one more problem - when the main navigation screen is up ie. the screen were u move ur units across the globe - the floor tiles don't appear! The floor is just black, blank tiles (I'm not making the mistake of counting the ones that I haven't discovered yet!) I can make out the waving water of the coasts but that's all. Tiles with tress and forest on do show up with the canop and trees, but they are surrounded by 'black'.

a few problems there

note below, then if you need further assist, please start a new thread on the forum sothis is kept just for Dxdiag posting

- You have an Integrated Graphics Chip, the game needs hardware T&L support, ie a grahics card
- your page file is very low needs increasing
- You have a Celeron, minimum processor requirement is a P4

There are things we can do to help squeeze the last drop out of what you have that may help, but your hardware is below spec for the game. If you want to try, post a separate thread in the forum, and we can give suggestions,

Need to do a clean install so that the effects of any previous attempts to sort it are taken away - not popular I know, u probably had numerous goes to date. But give it a go.

If you still got issues, start a new thread below similar to others so this is kept clear for Dxdiag posts only, we can then help from there. If still issues, in the thread put as many symptoms as u have noticed no matter how trivial

Hi,

I am having a kind of a graphic-screenshot problem as well. While playing the game tiles are mostly dark/black except activated units, jungles and rivers. My computer meets all the minimum requirements needed to run the game. Could anyone help me to sort this problem out please?

The Bad news - Your hardware appears to be under the spec for the game - you have on board graphics which do not meet the minimum Video needs of Hardware supported T&L. The DAC is reported as being "internal" in the DxDiag, supporting the deduction that its an on board chip being used. The System Model is not shown, so its difficult to be 100% sure, but I am 99% sure there is no graphics card in there as such.

The good news - its a relatively modern motherboard that supports AGP 8X, and there appears to be a free AGP slot for a graphics card, so if as I suspect you dont have a graphics card, one could be added relatively easily.

There are good pics and specs in the link below which may help getting suggestions from someone who knows this motherboard type better than I

My trouble is, about 50% of the time the wonder movies don't show at all (just black). Same thing with the leader portraits. The times the wonder movies do play, they are VERY choppy.

The game has run smoothly in all other respects, so far.

I've installed the 1.52 patch and ATIs latest drivers. Tried Omega, too, but it didn't change anything so I switched back.

dxdiag attached. Hope you can help.

Dxdiag looks ok at the moment

Your gonna hate me for this ..... but please do a clean Civ uninstall & reinstall as below - doubtless you battled away at sorting it, but doing a clean install gives a fighting chance of sorting it, and provide a baseline for fault finding if still issues

Please go thro the routine below, if still issues post a separate thread below in the forum with the symptoms and someone will pick you up from there.

Get Patch V1.52 as separate file

Before Patching
Windows add/remove in control panel remove Civ - success or failed do the following

Delete the Civ IV Directories in:

- Programs/Firaxis
- My Documents / My Games
- C:\Documents and Settings\USERNAME\Application Data\My Games\Civilization IV\ Its a hidden directory if not seen just check you have "show hidden files" switched on

Load from discs
Load Patch V1.52

If still issues - post again as a new thread in the main Tech Support Forum with issues you have seen post V1.52 Patch

You are in a similar situation as Post numbers 328 & 329 above - same issues - same solution - you need a graphics card. Yours has a slightly older board that only supports AGP 4X, but you have lots of Graphics Cards to choose from. Dont go for the mega card, no point, your machine will not make best use, go for a mid range card aka $80-120 (go by spec notprice, get someone to help you - Salesman will sell Granny if price was right )

Difficult to say here exactly what card, depends on the motherboard layout, you will need to get someone to look at it, but the good news is it will support a graphics card. There are other aspects such as Main RAM - too low - you need 512mb with XP, and the machine setup will need tweeking. First tho, you have to consider cost / utility to you of new Graphics card and additional RAM to 512mb on board. You might conclude a new box is needed, wouldnt argue with that ...

It seems like the sound is being played at a lower resolution than it should..

I have an maudio audiophile delta 24/96khz so the card is upto the job !

I have fog of war probs. up till I meet another civ and then my map clears in places.Shadows for elephants,cows,sheep, and horses.All movie music stops two secs. and then plays twos sec.over and over till the wonder movie is over or the title screen screen is loaded.Does the memory deal with the music also?Other than that once the game gets going is play's well.Except for the music in wonder movies as I stated already.I finshed settler game with spacerace win tonight.Memory is 512 graphics card is intel with 64 mb.Is there a way to boost the memory for it.I think it has been intergraded into motherboard.E-machines comp. bought at Wal-Mart Feb.of 2005.windows xp version 2.

So my friend and I both bought the game, and we are having the same problems everyone else seems to be having - leaders have only eyes, lips, random articles, all terrain is black, and movies are insanley choppy.

I'm having that problem too, and the patch corrected the leader problem but I'm still stuck with black terrain. I tried turing all the graphics options to the minimum, but it didn't do anything. I went to the Sony site, and it looks like I have the latest video card driver. I don't really know what to do, and I'm pretty bummed I can't play Civ.

I had a problem with my graphic card, but I managed to solve it and I hope it may help others (sorry if someone has already posted it).

My game crashed 50% of the time when I build a new wonder - I have disabled those movies at all and now I have no problems at all (well the game slow downs at the end, but it is due to other reasons ).

My workaround is as follow:
1. Go to the directory with your wonder movies (religion etc, if you have other problems as well), it will be $CIV_MAIN_DIR\Assets\Art\Movies\Wonders.
2. Rename all .bik files, for example add .old at the end.
3. Enjoy the game. It won't crash, but you will have just a CIV4 blue screen with OK button when building a new wonder.

It works best, although I tried other options as well - renaming directory etc.
