I need a better video card for my laptop, and I was wondering if you guys had any suggestions for cards that would let civ 5 run, and can be used on a laptop.

What about maybe using a portable usb memory card that I plug in?

...er...what? For the graphics? Would not have any effect at all.

And can you tell me what happens when I don't have a good enough video card?

Depends on how bad it is.
Could be that the game doesn't start, that you get massive graphical glitches, or that the game just runs a bit slow.

For a more precise prediction we'd need your DxDiag (my what?!?).

Yes, if you get them from the official pages, then they are free.

There *might* be scam sites, which could try to charge you for such stuff. Don't know if this happens at the moment, but like said: Free, if from the right sources. Don't pay for it.

Thanks, but I'm getting messages that the driver update isn't working for my computer, which is a Lenovo Thinkpad.

I hate these laptop manufacturers :gripe:. Why can they not just use the default drivers :gripe:?

In this case it means you'll have to see, if Lenovo themself offers a newer driver.
I can't check that, because you'll need the exact product description.
The respective download site is here, there you'll have to choose what machine you exactly have.
Good luck with that. I hope they offer newer drivers, but you can sadly not be sure :/.
