Great Courts

Just been thinking lately on the great courts of history. Not the legal ones, but rather the royal courts etc. Specifically, am thinking of those rulers who gathered a myriad of the great minds and figures of theri age to them. However, for the life of me, I can't seem to remember them.,
What I am looking for therefore, is info on the great courts -who they contained, and in what reigns.

I suppose it's not surprising that more attention in this forum is paid to military aspects rather than culture (despite Civ3's attempt to rectify things ).

I'd nominate the Medici's of Renaissance Florence particulary Lorenzo's court. He was a great patron of the arts including the likes of Michelangelo.
