I am not sure if this is a bug or a feature, but I was playing the Epic Game on COnquests and was abe to build the Great Library early on. Unfortunately, the Sumerians were the only other civ I had contat with, as we both shared the main continent at the beginning of the game.

Finally, a Hittite Galley made it over to my side of the world and in one turn, I learned about 6 different techs (i was really far behind!), including Education, and received a notice that the Library was now obsolte. However, right afrter that popup, I got a message saying that I had learned Astronomy as well- the next tech after education.

It makes no sense that the Library should keep giving you techs after it is made obsoete. I think the game mistakenly checks if it is obsolete at the BEGINNING of a turn, and then gives you all the techs you should have all at once. This wouls resault in a situation like this that makes no sense.

Any comments?

This was always the case. I had a game in the DyP mod with the Vikings where I got 39 Techs from the GL the turn after my Berserks captured it...ok, it was DyP with far more techs, but that still translates into one and a half era, catapulting me from mid Ancient (in DyP, 'zerks are Ancient) to only 2 techs away from Industrial. :D

You can argue if that makes sense, but it's the way the GL is supposed to work - if you have it, you get all available techs until that turn when you get Education. And I like it exactly that way.

Yeah, you can pull off some pretty wicked comebacks on Deity if you can capture the GL pre-Education

be smart, do not research Edu and grab the GL as late as possible (e.g. if you are the Vikings and it is in a coastal town you can wait almost to Infantry).

BAMM! you are even in tech ;)
