Great Library not working?

Hello.

Since I completed the GL, two other civs have discovered Invention. I expected to obtain this advance thanks to the GL, but I didn't. Why?
No one has discovered Education yet, so the GL is not obsolete, and I'm in contact with everyone thanks to the Great Lighthouse. I simply don't understand. Isn't the principle something like this: "the GL grants you any tech discovered by at least two other civs with whom you are in contact?"

IIRC Invention is near Eduction on the Tech Table. Someone might have discovered it without you knowing.

Godwynn: it doesn't matter if anyone *else* has Education. The Great Library isn't obolete until *the owner* knows Education.

And, of course, you won't receive the newly discovered techs until you finish your turn....

I used to rush towards education just to p*** off whoever had just completed the GL, and you're telling me this is useless?
Does it apply to other wonders? This would be a huge difference from Civ2.

It's not useless. The guy who has the GL will get it when: you give it to him or 2 nations have it and then he gets it through the GL, which then becomes defunct.

gl is my fav wonder so i believe i can advice well if u dont have gl and it is in a city near u the best thing is to stop all tech improvemnts and attck after u have a decent army even if the guys have completed education and other tech advances just sit bak and attck him with all ur power once u capture gl u ll get loads of research once i got monarchy republic feudalism invention engg chivalry gunpowder chemistry theology education and astronomy it was really cool one can definitly give this strategy a go.............niote even after education i got astronomy

Like Padma said, it doesn't matter how many "other" civs have education, the GL becomes obsolete to the person who has it when THEY discover education.

You could in theory be in the ancient age and build the GL and get shot all the way into the industrial age if no other civs have built the GL yet.

The GL isn't great past Education unless you're really behind, which is usually a bad place to be.

Spreading techs around to make the GL obsolete is kind of silly. Wouldn't it be better to keep techs to yourself and dive down a tech tree? You'll be even further ahead by the time 3 civs get education.

If it's two civs you know then YES
