Hi everibody
I'm new on this forum, and I'm playing my first serious game on Civ3 conquests, Sid/large (w. save/loads).
I've bump into a problem with Great Library rush - French finish it 1 turn ahead of me, in 610BC. Is here any ways to speed up a Great Wonder? City is 9 and doesn't accept any workers, disbanding and military leaders seems no help... Any advise, please!!!

I suppose you just got a bit of bad luck. The only other thing I can think of, but would probably not be possible, is to give the French a new government. Seeing as it's Sid, you wouldn't have one if you didn't have the GL...

Your best bet would be to try and get the French to lose some luxuries or something and get them to finish the GL a bit later.

You're playing on Sid and you don't know that disbanding units don't help wonders? That MGLs can't rush great wonders? :wow:

EDIT: But I have no idea why it doesn't accept workers, maybe it only accepts on worker per turn?

MGLs can't rush Great Wonders in Conquests...it's different than Vanilla. ;)

Also, you need to be able to support those workers that you are joining (ie; the city can't be starving when you join them, and it can't go beyond 6 without fresh water or an aqueduct, and beyond 12 until hospitals).

All you can really do is hope they get unhappy citizens and have to take some citizens off the production or maybe getting into a war will help stop them.

If you read my sentence again, you will realise that "you don't know...?" is distributed between "that disbanding units don't help wonders?" and "That MGLs can't rush great wonders?". I should have made it all one sentence...

I don't have a contact with bastards...

Gee, I just never play games in non-hardest level :) But yes, in Conquests it is hard! :)))

It accepts at least 2 per turn, but may be it's an equivalent of a settler? I have to double-check it, if you are right - I'm probably OK.

Not true for worker-join. I have empty city of 9 now...

Yes, it is true for worker-joins. ;)

Perhaps either, a) your city has an aqueduct, b) your city is next to a river, or c) your city is next to a lake (21 tiles or under). You simply *can't* grow beyond size 6 if you don't have any of those.

:) I think there are a few more of us with that policy. I also think Civ changed that policy for many people :p
I solved the problem by playing gotm, as they are competition against others primarily and give me a good excuse to play other difficulties :goodjob:

I think the reason the city wont accept new workers is because that would put them into a food shortage situation. Try irrigating a few tiles outside the city first, then move in the workers.

micromanage your cities for maximum production is about all you can do.

you could have prebuilt something (another wonder or if not ur capital, the palace) and then changed when gl was available, having a head start on the AI, then micromanage away and attempt to buil the most sheilds per turn possible

Well, I corrected this and managed to build the wonder 2 turns earlier. But this time French did finish it ealier too, again 1 turn ahead of me!!!

I'll try to make war on Romans and get Republic for peace to give French... In additinot to invasion, I'll give them few freshly-taken Mongol cities and rise them a turn late to speed up things...
I also can trage Code of Laws to French for 21gpt in hope to weaken their economy a bit, since declaring war on them did not helped...
But all seem quite grim so far.

Totally different question: That is the best goverment for Sid/Large?
Facism seems overpowered from it's description. Is here any drawbacks in it comparing to, says, Communism (except the wonder/corruption)? How big an empire should be for Communism be a first choice?

depends what ur going for, if ur military is fairly small go for democracy, if u got a whopping one i owuld go for communism, if u are looking to warmonger and have the units, go for facism

Fascism is actually a pretty bad government as a whole. While it can support a huge number of units, Xenophobia and pop loss will kill you. The humans can usually deal with it on DemiGod and below, but above DemiGod switching to Fascism is suicide.

Unless your empire is quite small, Communism is the best government by the time you get to it. (If it is very small, Democracy is better.) However, you may often want to stay as a Republic because the 8-9 turn Anarchy can be devastating.

Well, the pop loss happends only once, right? Xenophobia - on Sid I rarely can keep cities with forigen population anyway due to culture flips... Either rize them of substitute pop (for wonders)...

End of story. Looks like French were stealing Literature immideately after I discover it. I've delayed research - and they even did not tried to build it! He-he...
