Great year for strategy games, but which will be on the top?

Umm, Aoe2 is soo much better than Civ and the TBSs. RTS games are just much better. Also, AoE3 has got really good graphics from the screens and they have never disappointed. They even have a game, Star Wars Galactic Battlegrounds, that is basically the same game with the same engine except it's Star Wars.

1) TBS is vastly superior to RTS, IMHO. TBS requires more thinking and strategy. RTS is based on the speed of the mouse click mostly.
2) The AoE3 screens are probably cutscenes from campaign movies.
3) Star Wars Battlegrounds is okay, but not nearly as good as Civ.

Empire Earth II is too much like Rise of Nations... A little TOO much like it... (even down to the techs, except it's 3 rows instead of 5).

To be honest, I'm keeping my eye on Oleg Maddoxs' "Wartime Command". RTW:BI, if done correctly (which I doubt it will), could also be a strong contender. Also, if I'm not mistaken, the new Combat Mission is supposed to be out this year (back to the ETO w/ a revamped graphics engine). The American Civil War series is enjoying awesome reviews -- may have to check that out as well.

The Civ series is, to me, the "old standby". It's an all around engaging game, and one that has resided on my HD forever.

dunno what RTS you play,but i beat faster people all the time in aoe2 by better strategy and improvisation. yet i also lose to people slower than me who know the game 10x better.there is a diminishing effect on mouse speed. maybe your speed is so low it dosnt matter what you do? i could beat the fastest person in the world if all he did was a hun 22pop and didnt know how to play.
warcraft however,is way to speedy for me to play

actually,the aoe3 graphics really are that good,speccially havoks engine..have you seen the movie clips?

All will be good and AoE3 will be super. I just hope Civ4 is at least as good.
