Greek let's play video

Yeah, this guy was terrible :(

But another side effect of no lump-sum gold trading.........Ash wouldn't accept embassy even though he had 25 gold....little harder to set up embassies?...........that is until both parties have the option

EDIT: And what about the barbarian camp he took. it only yielded +16 gold? what happened to 25? or was that some sort of speed setting thing too?

Had my headphones on, I could hear Gajah Mada's theme a lot better than Casimir's and Ash's, but the themes are there. Ahmad's theme was inaudible due to the voicover.

I didn't hear the gamelan in Gajah Mada's theme so I hope it's not the theme and just a placeholder (Given how they do the weird thing of inserting out-of-place rhythms (and even instruments) to the Asian themes, I'm not hopeful it would sound great anyway)

You can still exchange embassies, you just can't trade yours for 25 gold. Another effect is going to be that you can't buy World Congress votes with gold unless you are friends. I wonder if you can still gift or demand lump sums without friendship, it sounds like you can't.

And the 16 gold from the barb camp is because the game is on quick speed.

Other than the leader screens, if that does it for you, if you don't know Greek, there is zero value in watching this video.

The DoF change is yet another element that is going to strain diplomatic relations. Next they'll say that Open Borders is pushed even farther up the tree, to what, acoustics?

Yeah a main focus they have had is adding to the value of DOFs. They heavily reduced backstabs to make having a DOF actually relevant. Adding RAs to DOFs gave a real value to being friends as well as reducing RA spam. With trade routes adding diplo bonuses and being a prime source of gold maybe long term friendships will be even more valuable. I moved up from Prince to King in GK because diplo improvements added an element to AI diplomacy that made me want actually care about interacting with them. It also strengthened early rushes, through the power of AI archer spam, which made the AI a threat below Immortal if I didn't build defenses.

This could weaken Tradition starts a little. With lump sum trades harder to get will it remain the powerhouse it is. I was worried when they added GE purchasing to it but now this makes more sense.

Also can we get a buff to the Dutch UA. Without early lump sum trades, which are dicey below Emperor anyway, what does it provide. I rarely need to trade away my last lux for something. Without the ability to spam lux trades for gold that opportunity should decrease more. ITs the anti Egypt UA its only useful on high difficulties.

On a minor tangent, I think someone could make a pretty interesting WWII mod now. With Sea trade routes you can finally actually simulate the Battle of the Atlantic.

Casimir's lines:

Initial greeting: "Ja, Kazimierz Wielki, witam Cię na ziemiach wielkiego Królestwa Polskiego." - "I, Casimir the Great, welcome you to the lands of the great Kingdom of Poland."

Let's hear it: "Zamieniam się w słuch" - "I'm all ears."

Neutral no: "Absolutnie nie." - "Absolutely not./Of course not."

Casimir's theme unfolds very slowly, with choir and strings, but I can't tell what it is based on yet.

One thing I don't quite like is that Casimilar is speaking a very modern Polish - he uses words that not only were not in use in his time, but also 50 years ago.

I think most of the leaders speak the modern variant of their tongue? George Washington with a Bill Clinton accent is an example that will never not be hilarious to me.

I can't speak to the knowledge of the other leaders whose languages I haven't the slightest clue, but Gajah Mada is speaking a form of Javanese closer to the days of the early kingdoms than it is to present-day Javanese

Now just picture how Elizabeth should speak.

They are modern versions of languages, most probably because they want natural sounding voice actors, rather than period correct speakers with no voice acting experience or the wrong kind of voice.

I know, eh. The first time I heard Washington I burst out laughing and contemplated modding his leaderscreen for it to be Clinton. I still chuckle, especially when he says, "Are you a friend o' liberty?" in a Clinton-esque voice, but also somewhat cowboy-ish.

Yes, this is my concern as well - but it's not an exception (Washington, Bismarck, Elizabeth, Catherine, Willem, Harald, Isabella... the list grows.). I think it's better that we at least have Polish in the game, than to have it butchered by adding poorly chosen antique words. Gustavus and Ramkhamkaheng confused some people when they used old words out of the blue.

Yeah, Washington has that southern accent alright. Clinton-esque even.

"Shall we declare war on Dido?"

"I did not have diplomatic relations with that woman."

Anyway its a move to right direction. They are making many small improvements just like in G&K.

We still dont know how much cheaper policies are now, but there must be a change. I just love the fact that there are 4 trees available right from the start. So many new strategies. Things like this are really changing the game. Byzantium was weak earlier, but now they should do better.

Actually, I hope the Piety thing is a mistake. I'm sure it would have been mentioned officially by now if it was true. Personally, I think 3 trees in the Ancient Age, 2 in the Classical (Piety & Aesthetics), 2 in the Medieval Age (Patronage & Commerce) & 2 in the Renaissance Age (Rationalism & Exploration) would be the best way to do it.

Aussie.

In fact we already know that
Rationalism now unlocks at Renaissance,
Commerce and Exploration at Medieval,
Aesthetics and Patronage at Classical.

Really, when did we learn that? I must say that I'm extremely underwhelmed by that change-too few SP's in Renaissance, & too many in Ancient & Classical IMHO.
