GreenMan Gaming Pre-order

I've pre-ordered a lot of games for Steam, and Guild Wars 2, on green man gaming.

They have good deals. Very good deals. That means every single time a lot of newcomers to green man gaming discover them and go there and panic when they don't have their key days before release, and every single time a thread like this pops up in the fan community.

You will get your key when the game is released. I always got them before. Someone here points out he got it 2 hours after official release, that's the worse delivery from GMG I've ever heard of.

Personally, I've never had a problem.

Has anyone had past experience with them? Are these claims reliable?
GMG is very reliable, you'll get the key same time as release most likely. There were some issues where they ran out of keys for CKII I think, but I doubt that will happen with something as high profile as BNW. Even then, it's only a couple hour delay if that happens

As long as it's not the same issues as they had with Heroes 6 patches, which was forced to run through they own capsule program instead of Steam, and then they didn't update the patches even months after they were out. But I guess that Civ5, running through Steam, will not have that problem, but I've made myself a promise of never returning to GMG after that, so I've also stayed clear of them in this case.

According to their e-mail response, I should be receiving the activation key at 12:22 AM.

Civ 5 is Steam only, so GMG just has Steam keys

If it is just steam keys then a person should be able to download from steam also?

You still have to get the keys before downloading from Steam and GM hasn't sent them early. That's one of the trade-offs when ordering Steam games from stores other than Steam. You might not get your keys early and have to wait for release. After all, Steam doesn't know you own a game until you input the key.

The main reason I ordered from GM was because I got the 32.5% off discount (10% base, plus 25% for pre-order discount) and had $10 credit so I was able to get the whole expansion for $10 plus change.

Yeah I have about the same and don't really care about the keys being early as I am busy tonight on other things until after the download will commence.:king:

Actually it's 32,5% (25% discount used on 90% of price)

You can only download it from Steam if it's a Steam key. Getting a Steam key is pretty much like buying a game from Steam, except whichever site you buy from gets the money instead.

So I guess pre-ordering from GMG means that you can't pre-load or get your key beforehand so you can activate it on Steam? It's 10 PM EST here and GMG still hasn't e-mailed me the key. If I don't get it by midnight I'm never pre-ordering something from them again since I've had problems pre-ordering other games such as Bioshock Infinite from them.

is steam preloading yet for anyone (not counting the few that got it early)?

Yeah, I'm rather disappointed in GMG. I was hoping to load my key into Steam before I went to bed tonight so that BNW would be ready for me to play tomorrow, but it looks like that won't happen. Bah!

It's not even one gig. Enjoy paying extra money because you can't wait for a couple of hours. Personally, I'm still confident I'll get the key in time.

Eh, to each his own. I'd much rather have time than money.

Can't you just wake up half an hour early, boot your computer tomorrow morning, enter your key, and download when you're at work or something like that? It's just a few theoretical hours (it might land in your email box as I"m typing this who knows).

I wouldn't even be able to play it tonight anyway because I have to go to bed and go to work tomorrow morning.

Anyway, on most modern connections, downloading one gig should take less than like half an hour at worst.

Nah, I barely make it to work in the morning as it is. 7am is early and my commute is much too long! A half hour might not seem like much, but it's a fair bit when I only have ~2 hours to play. :(

Anyway, no big deal. I'll know better next time. $5 isn't worth the hassle of ordering from a non-Steam website.

Honestly, I would probably buy from Steam too if I only bought a handful of games every year. But with the amount of games I buy and play, every 5$ counts. Still, who knows, maybe you'll get your key before bed time.

Well, they've got 6 minutes! I hope they make it!
