Is anyone interested in multiple Games of The Month?

I'm going to submit two starts, an Earth one and one on a map I created.

I don't want anyone to get stired up, I'm not trying to replace GOTM, nor am I claiming to have as elaborate a database to store the participants names and scores, etc. This is just something for those of us who have already finished the current month's GOTM to keep busy until the new month arrives.

If you are a GOTM fan and have not yet completed the offical GOTM please do not start on either of these yet. But if you're done and have some extra time, try these.

Any comments are appreciated.

It's a good idea, I may try it eventually but not this month. It should receive an ok numebr of submissions if people are interested.

Hi Narz,

You might want to add basic stuff like level of difficulty, barbarian setting, # of civs, if civ restarts are on, size of map, what version of civ you created the map with, and any special conditions of play and/or conditions of victory.

I've noticed some players wanting more games, esp. in the Prince - King range of difficulty.... Old n Slow was even wanting a weekly game on a small map  ... and I myself was asking about a monthly OCC (LOL, and volunteered the master of OCC, Smash, to make a decent OCC map!)...

Personally, my first play time each month will go to the GOTM (Civ 2)... and then after that, any leftover play time to ???. My suggestion is just to "maintain" your thread about the game(s) you post, and always make it very clear your thread is not "the" GOTM (like you've done), so as not to confuse new visitors to CFC & the GOTM :).

PS, Of course the Forum mod is Matrix & what's cool with him is what really counts.

There is a text file included which includes the game info...

Both games are on King difficulty with 7 Civs.
The map was created with the Civ II Gold Map Editor (you can download it in the Civ II downloads). Both games have the "Roving Bands" level of barbarian activity. The Earth game is on the unaltered Large (120 X 75) version of Earth with the player as the Americans. The other is on a map which I named BigWarWorld, it is mostly land, normal sized map, flat world. Both games should be a good challange for the average player and a good competition to see who finishes first for the experienced player.

I don't have my own scoring system like the actual GOTM, I think what I'll use is this simple eqation I just came up with this second in my head.

Narz's GOTM score = regular Civ score multipled by...
Two : if win by spaceship
Three : if win by conquering all

Minus (year of conquest or space ship arrival dived by two) rounded up

Enjoy your journeys!

P.S. : Note to all, the game starts are available for download in the first messege (scroll up)

PS, Narz, you can add/change stuff to your top post by using the "Edit" button... you might want to move all the info up to the top post, since that's the one that gets the most attention in a thread ;). A screenshot of your starting postion in the top post would look good, too. :)

BTW, You have two different games at once!? You animal... :D OK, you gotta make us a good commentary of your play of these games for a good baseline, ya know! And you've finished your GOTM before your NMCC, right? hehe...

PPS: The NMCC is the "Narz Monthly Civ Challenge".... my candidate for your game name (feel free to select anything you want, of course!) to avoid the confusion with the official GOTM terminology. And so your (NMCC One ?) begins...

EDIT: Added BTW & PPS paragraph.

Wow! I think the Idea may work Narz, I may play these INSTEAD of GOTM this month just because I am only comfortable on king right now since I am rusty on higher levels. Will there be a bonus for OCC?

Great idea Starlifter, I will start a new thread and name it "Narz Monthly Civ Challenge"

As for your question Gonzo, sure you can go for OCC, I will double your score (after subtracting the date) if you win that way. It may be tough it these two particular scenerios because there are no special resorces around be I'm sure its still possible, especially since its only King level. Go for yours!

So do we get to play both? Or is the World map just an extra bonus for the first time out?

Any deadline considerations? Some of us (Matrix knows I fall into that category :o ) tend to draw things out to a maddenly late date...

Sounds like fun -- I'm at 1700 +/- in the current GOTM & have stepped away for a few days so I can return with fresh eyes. ;)

Hmmm. Deadlines... how about sumbiting by July 4th, is that enough time for everyone? I will rate both, the custom map as well as the Earth map. Actually, I will give until July 11th to complete the Earth game, at which time I'll go over and rate all the games. I hope to get at least 10-15 players. See the thread also : Narz's Monthly Civ Challange.
