Football does look very good as to why the uk is represented all the home nations. There are very few statistics that england and wales keep separately.

ok, then there must have been less than 10 tournaments as it is easily possible that not everybody took part everytime ;-) You can have a tournament with 8 teams where Germany takes part everytime but the other 7 participants change... And of course, the tournament changed the number of teams over the years, so that makes it extremly hard to calculate.

What would be strange then is the colouring of Jugoslawia, or did they just count their participation in with SErbia which cannot have gotten to 5 since the mid-nineties. That would be strange... Well, I guess you're right ;)

Potentially some may not be consecutive?

Serbia is generally considered the successor to Yugoslavia (as Russia to the Soviet Union). I don't know who would be considered the successor of Czechoslovakia if that matters.

Number of major wars it has been in?

mitsho got it, I just found the map. I assumed that if it were appearances, more European countries would have been on the map. I didn't know the championship only started in 1960 or I'd've probably realized that only 48 total teams could have been represented (4 teams per semi final per tournament; number of tournaments being 12).

Wales and Scotland being separated was what gave it away.

I don't see what's so different between your guess and Mitsho's, assuming UEFA use the term finals in the same way that FIFA do when describing the World Cup. World Cup finals refers tot he entire tournament, post qualification.

Well, it's the language, ****! ;-) (self-censored)

I automatically understood European Cup Finals as relating to the Final games of the European Cup, which was named that way for a long time by the UEFA, meaning the tournament between European Club teams (in relation to the Champions League).

So I guess, we need to be more clear what we think, on the other hand, it's not a tournament he... ;-)

@new map, Because of the top places of the Czech Republic, Estonia and then France and Sweden and the fact that there's no data for "communist" countries like China and Greenland (joke), I'd say percentage of atheist population. If I'm right, feel free to post another map as I neither have a good idea right now nor time to look for one ;)

If it weren't for the different coloured non-UEFA members (there aren't that many things which include Kazakhstan, the Caucasus and Israel with the European countries :P).

Is dwaxes map healthcare standards? The darker countries are either rich or (ex-)commies and the US is lighter so that would make sense. No idea why some countries are randomly excluded on a map this recent (Kosovo is present) so my guess is that it is something specific healthcare-related.
The legend runs from dark to light so darker is apparently less of something. Deaths because of a specific cause? No idea.

EDIT: Mitsho's probably right. *facepalms

Something with religion/atheism ? I really can't figure out any other thing in what we are no. 1 /no. last.

And nice filename, btw.

Some eastern religions don't require a belief in a god. That could explain Japan. Europe synchs up pretty much exactly with atheism figures, as does South America (and Uruguay).

While I agree atheism looks like a pretty damn good fit, can someone explain Kashmir?

It's possible to simultaneously be an atheist and a Hindu, living by a set of Hindu values. I don't know to what degree this is followed in Kashmir, but it could be influencing the results.

But why should Kashmir have such higher rates than the states that dispute the area? If that's true for Hindus then surely India would reflect it as well!

It could be complicated by the political situation.
The Chinese portion are all officially atheists, I believe, to help bring it down..
