Gum police! And, a new tax on chewing gum?

Would you support a tax on chewing gum?

Here's an idea. More trash cans!
Someone already explained that London lacks trashcans because terrorists use them to harbour bombs.

We learn something new every day

I personally support a ban on chewing gum like in Singapore.
Its disgraceful the state of our streets.
Not to mention the state of our desks. ;)

I'm all for any legislation that works to keep gum off of the bottom of my shoes. I've said it before- discarding your chewing gum on the ground should result in harsh penalties. like summary tazer zappings or public humiliation.

Now this is misleading. You're not putting a tax on gum, just offenders who throw their gum on the ground, right?
No, they're (thinking of) putting a tax on companies that produce gum.

Wow... Brits are messy when it comes to their gum. Aside from schoolchildren, we Americans can pretty consistantly find a trashcan to throw our gum away in. ;)

Why punish every consumer for the wrongdoing (assuming it is defined as such) of some?

Fine those who do it, if you can't do that it's your problem and not that of someone chewing it at home.

And there should be a comparable tax on cigarettes and especially on dogs.

I say we fine the terrorists who forced London to remove it's bins. Other cities don't seem to share this problem.

Do you think we could get a UN resolution forcing R.Ireland to cover cleaning expenses? :p

What I wonder about and become somewhat disturbed at is the fact that people who work in restaurants (cooks or waiters) sometimes start chewing gum. The source of this concern is an obession with cleanliness.

How can this be a problem, I live in a relatively large city, but I never step on gum, though plenty of people chew it, of course there are plenty of garbage cans.....

Gum is pointless anyway. The taste goes away quickly, and mints are more effective for breath control. Chewing gum is illogical at the core.

I'm fine with it.

Any pack of gum that contains more than 15 sticks should be considered Assault Gum, and banned. Civilians have no need for that much gum.

Well, I guess it's not so bad, you'd still be able to spit out massive quantities of sunflower seed shells.

Man I sure could go for a big ol' bag of sunflower seeds.
