Hail to the Chief -- OPEN Succession Game

Anything to get city names that are interesting, and not the same ones that we've seen over and over and over again . . .

I think I was wrong and that I set up a Monarch level game and not Emperor -- good thing, as it seems we'll need the extra advantage!

1450BC (0) - preturn
I see that we are the only civ with writing so I won't trade it as we still have a chance of being first to get philo.
Trade myst + 6g from Maya for alpha (they are next to bab so I guess they may get alpha soon anyway).
Renamed curragh to George Patton & Ulysses Grant (needed a dictionary to find out his first name).

1425BC (1)
Rename curragh to Robert Edward Lee

1400BC (2)
I realize I know only 3 american war heroes so I make a small research on the internet to come up with other names:
Rename curragh to John L. Hines & Alvin C. York.

IBT - Rome learns alpha

1375BC (3) - zzz

IBT - GW:Settler->warrior (realize GW will produce 41sh before getting to size 3)

1350BC (4) - Exploring a new island (or continent) E of Korea.

IBT
China asks to leave its territory. Sure.
China learns myst.

1325BC (5) - zzz

1300BC (6)
Founded Abraham Lincoln -> warrior

1275BC (7) - zzz

1250BC (8) - Sell myst to Korea for 75g

IBT - Maya has poly

1225BC (9) - switch one labor in If_only_we_were to scientism -> map making in 5t, otherwise granary would finish before map making is discovered.

1200BC (10) - zzz

Decided not to increase lux as I do not have time to play another 10t and do not want to hold the game.

Moved the scout to New Atlanta to reduce the small flip chance and stationned the 3 curragh outside of New Atlanta for the same reason. I think I should have move them to another city who will finish a harbor faster.

I think the next player should be very carefull to make sure the granary in If_only_we_were is not finished before map making is researched to be able to switch it to harbor. I do not think a granary is useful there as we do not have much space to settle (one more city on this island and 2 on the island SE of Romans).

If anyone is interested or searches for more american war heroes:

American war heroes web site

BTW, I was able to stick to american heroes. I was actually kidding earlier about using another nationality of heroes and president as it would not be very appropriate. :D

HArbors are available with construction, IIRC.

This is my first SG so please let me know if there is anything lacking in my overview.

1175BC - I begin my rule and realize that in order to move forward in this game we need to destroy the Babylonians to gain territory and gain furs.
-Abraham lincoln builds warrior and will now build a temple
-New Atlanta is switched to swordsmen

1150 - ZZZ

1125 - New St. Louis builds a temple and will now build a barracks
- If_only_we_were city production slowed so it doesn't build a Granary
- New Philadelphia builds a barracks and will now build spearmen

1100 - Map Making complete, Science switched to Philosophy
- Gained a SGL Albert Einstein, fortified in Goerge Washington
- If_only_we_were city switched to harbor
- Goerge Washington builds settler
- Science switched to 80%

1075 - If_only_we_were city builds harbor and will now build a barracks
- New Atlanta builds a swordsmen
- Robert Lee and Ulysses Grant upgraded to galleys

1050 - zzz

1025 - zzz

1000 - Science switched to 70%

975 - Declare war on Babylon

950 - Capture Babylonian worker

Thus ends my reign. I suggest the next leader destroys Babylon as quickly as possible to give a large territory advantage.

Well Matthewv maintained the 50% approval rating. Does this means he is reelected? If so I will wait. If not then I will go next, but will wait for an answer first.

Hmmmm. Yes, good question, I hadn't considered maintaining approval, for some reason . . . Lets say that it has to be higher, not just the same, for re-elect. So, Mauer, its all you.

Matthew made a ballsy call there going after Babylon, if it pays off he'll be a hero. Otherwise . . . well, you know!

Hum. Interesting. DoW with only one offensive unit and a SGL. It is fortunate this game is on monarch level, not emperor! Good luck with that war! ;)

I am no expert, but I think it is considered rude to declare war on your last few turns. Note that war on Babylon was coming soon anyway, so I do not think there is much harm done this time.

As for the SGL, I see 2 options. The wonder that I think would help the most at this point is TGLib, although it expires pretty soon in the game. Considering that the UU of american comes very late in the game, the other option would be to build a wonder that would bring us closer to a GA. The only AA wonder that fills the exp trait is TGLight (almost useless but the only one for a long time). The AA wonder that fills the ind trait is pyra, TGW & HG. Since the continents are small, HG seems the best choice for that trait. Note that there are NO wonders for the ind trait in MA.

Therefore, I would suggest save SGL for HG and if we get very lucky and get another SGL, the TGLight for GA.

Note that conventional rules of etiquette, such as don't declare war near the end of your turn or when you don't have any offensive units, don't apply to this game. You're president, do what you want. George H.W. Bush, for instance, went into Somalia after he lost his re-election and it ended up as a time bomb that went off a few months after Clinton's inauguration. Now, he didn't do it on purpose to screw Clinton, but rather because he thought it was the right thing to do.

Okay, Mauer, you can take a shot later in the week maybe. Someone else want to take a shot? Are we going to pursue the Babylonians, or is a Peacemonger next?

I'm in. Always wanted to be President. Babylons are toast. We do have an offensive unit. How tough can they be?

HttC – 950BC

Preturn – We’re at 50% on rating. First off I really don’t like the temples while we are at war. Swap builds quite a bit. Looks like If only we were will be the only big producer so it goes to granary. Other go harbors for food and a sword.
[1] 925 – Kill a spear in Babylon flawless and a warrior remains. Whew! Workers that looked liked they were transporting over? Are set to cut down a tree to provide more food. Do some trading to pick up poly and math. 1gpt and writing to Korea for math. Writing and math for poly and then MM back to Korea for his 75g. bump up research to get philo in 3.
[2] 900 – Take Babylon flawless, capturing 4 workers, and start a spear. There is a lone bab warrior coming at us.
[3] 875 – Kill the warrior barely. Philo due next turn. I think I’ll take Monarchy and then head for currency.
[4] 850 – Take Monarchy and heading for currency. No revolt yet until after the war is over. Settler is ready to settle west of Babylon, renamed Jefferson.
[5] 825 – Found Roosevelt. Send 2 swords over to Nineveh.
[6] 800 – Forests clear for food and granary is complete in If Only. Start a rax. 3 swords on mountain overlooking Neniveh spot furs. Move the spear out of Jeffson to help in Neniveh attack.
[7] 775 – Build a harbor and a sword that goes to Nineveh. Have to raise lux for new population.
[8] 750 – Just realized this should be my 10th turn and then figure out it should have turned over to me at 1000BC. Well, I’m taking Nineveh.
[9] 730 – Take Nineveh losing one sword. Renamed Adams.
[10] 710 – 2 units head back to defend Jefferson and Roosevelt. Workers heading over to get the furs online.

Hammi wants peace and we can’t really get at him. You can get his 26g and a slave though. Currency in 14 but you may want to revolt now. The furs won’t come online until a harbor is built in Adams.

Btw I was still at 50%.

Good job destroying Babylon barbslinger. I believe that the Romans should be our next target since they will also be easy to defeat.

Babylon still has Ashur hiding out just 2 towns past the Mayans. Romans are good but I think taking out the Mayans and the AI south of Babs may be better. I would have to look but I would find the best land and go for that to jump the palace out of our no water area.
I also had a curraugh that if it survives IT will find another AI.
