Halo 2

And once again, I still don't know why anyone would call the game revolutionary. All I see is TWO major changes to the gameplay:

1) Different colored Master Chefs
2) Dual Wielding Weapons

Those are definitly not the only changes.

The game also has amazing AI for enemies and allies and I am not just saying it is better than the first Halo, I am saying it is better than most other games.

The game also introduces new types of aliens some of which are very hard to kill. And of course the game now lets players wield plasma swords as well as the enemy.

It also has action taking place in space which was definitly NOT in the first game and not in most games. The games that do have action in space are space-only games and are not FPS.

The game also adds the ability to have an AI player driving the warthog and you shoot the warthog's gun which could not be done in the first Halo.

And the effect of having more than one Spartan in the game is not just to see the pretty colors. Since the AI is better you can have a supporting AI team with Spartans that can actually help and not just be in the way until they die like the marines sometimes were in the first Halo game.

There may be more I am forgetting or have not gotten to yet since I havn't finished the game yet. Of course the graphics are much improved too but I assumed you were only talking about gameplay changes since the graphics are obvious.

We're not saying it's a bad game, subss, it's a great game.

But it sure ain't revolutionary.

I can't wait till the weekend. I'm playing Xbox Live with my friend on huge team battles.

I wasn't saying any ONE of those things is revolutionary it is the fast that it has ll of those combined with a nice polish. Many games have a few of those elements but do they have them all? It also has a good story too which makes the gameplay more interesting. It is revolutionary to have agame that is such a well rounded game that is all I am saying. Plus, even if energy shields and these other elements from the game have been done elsewhere, have they been done in the same great way that Halo and Halo 2 has? I don't think so. These two games do old things in a unique way and they do it with no major bugs or errors in the game. Sure Star Wars has energy swords too but Halo does it differently.

Gamespy gave it a perfect rating:

I have yet to play Halo1 (partially because it's not really worth playing it on PC and I don't have Xbox) but considering everything I've heard about Halo2, I may actually get Xbox just for this.

Now, what's the cheapest price I can get Xbox for? :)

I have a question though: don't you find a mouse easier to use for aiming than a game console? That is, since there's a more direct link between hand-eye coordination (i.e. you move your whole arm and not just your thumb). I remember I tried playing Splinter Cell on it once and found navigation and aiming to be rather inaccurate and turning is not anywhere as controllable as with a mouse (i.e. move the mouse and the cross hair moves with it, as opposed to pushing the console thumb-stick--whatever its called--in a direction and having to wait for the screen to turn at a pre-set rate.

Some things need getting used to but until console systems develop a better control system (i.e. like a mouse or, even better, a gun), PC will be superior in terms of control IMO.

Anyway, I think Halo2 is seen as the best game ever because of its overall qualities. Even if it isn't the best game ever, for what I can tell it's the best FPS ever...but I should play it first before being sure of that.

I think the reason is what subbss was saying: it's not that it adds what other games haven't but that it includes much of what other games only offer seperately (i.e. you get it all in one solid package).

Yeah mouse is better. Is it just me or is Halo 2 compared to Halo 1 faster when it comes to aiming etc.

Revolutionary =/= Polish

The only thing that Halo 2 has done that's even close to revolutionary is having 2 million preorders, and it also probably holds the record of most claims of the game being revolutionary when it really does no such thing.

A game does not need to be revolutionary to be a good game. Just because Halo 2 is not revolutionary does not mean the game is bad. In the same sense, just because Halo 2 may be a really good game does not mean that it's revolutionary.

Just finnished getting probably 3/4ths the way through it. Fun game.................butt the story is lacking. I have no clue what's going on half the time. Probably because Cortana isn't chatting it up telling me where to go.

I so wish the xbox could support a mouse and keyboard like the PS2

Just had a LAN PArty with my friends. It was kickass. 4v4 CTF on Coagulation and Zanzibar was awesome, and Swords on Lockout and Ivory Tower and Ascension are intense. With Lockout and Irvory Tower it's all about "Who's around that corner?" On Ascension you can get a vantage point fairly easily, so you can easily see someone, so then you both start hunting one another and skill, not reflexes, prevails. I like Ascension better because since I don't have the game I didn't have to memorize a complex map like Ivory Tower.

CTF we didn't play too much since none of us had played the multiplayer maps much, so we would be lost and not able to find the flag carrier. But when we did, it was still fun. Zanzibar is pretty cool, especially when I found the plasma sword by myself. You have to break off a piece of the windmill to form a path to the base then fall down a hole in the rotating wheel. But it's incredibly complicated to play it when you haven't played the game before. I was so lost. But in Coagulation(Blood Gulch but a little bigger) it was much easier. When we played single flag, I pioneered an amzing move dubbed "The Banshee Rush." I immediately got into our Banshee, boosted to the other base, dropped down through the hole for the flag, ran out of the base to drop to the bottom floor and take their Bansee back to my base. It took all of 20 seconds.

Kickass game. We also palyed Colossus, Midship(both of which sucked, IMO), Burial Mounds(Confusing), and some other level that was pretty good but I forget what it is called. We also played the copy of Battle Creek that wasn't that much fun actually.

Dual Wielding is pretty cool, and not overpowered, I refer without it. It's harder to aim, and you can only use weaker weapons with it so you really have to get used to a combination and get used to rapidly pressing the left trigger, which is tough. Getting used to a combination was lost on us since we had been playing the game for a few days, so dual wielding was only good with a plasma rifle to slow someone down so it is easier to aim. Otherwise it is better than using one weapon if the only alternative is to use a weaker weapon with grenade, but I wasn't so good at it. But the best combo is still a strong weapon, like Shotgun, Sniper, or Rocket with grenades. The Battle Rifle seems weak to me. The new Pistol requires headshots to be effective at all. I wasn't able to use the Covenant Carbine, Covenant Sniper or Sentinel Beam. The Brute Shot acts like a basic grenade launcher. It's much harder to snipe now, I think.

The Plasma Sword is awesome. Just line the enemy up, move close enough so the reticule is red, and press R and you zoom wicked fast and slice and dice. You can jump very high with it too. No falling damage in the game now means long falls on top of people are very viable especially with plasma swords. The Plasma sword is easily dominant in short range, but it's like a glowing beacon for snipers. Stealth with it is really essential though.

Great game, can't wait to play again.
