Hammurabi - Immortal Cookbook

Spoiler :

no need for hunting archery, you are going to chop a big army out so get pottery for cottages in capital after the army goes off and then get writing in asap after that. I like grabbing stone and then attacking if you are going with Axes the delay doesn't matter. Though if you miss pyramids the stone just shaves turns off Oxford?

Grashopa:
Useful points, I think I do far too little forward planning. I guess I always feel like I want to get some use out of the UU, but in this instance I can see why it's not worth it.

I’ve only been playing on Noble, Normal, Elizabeth (assuming that few turns as Willem on ancient Monarch doesn’t count). So, be gentle… or not :) Came here for some learning points.

THOUGHTS:

• As rushing on Immortal sounds too suicidal, it probably will be a later war. Maybe a classical war with cats and hopefully swords? Or HA-s, as I’m teching Archery and have access to horses? I was thinking of going for ZY first, as he’s sitting there right in my face. On the other hand, ZY is over-creative and Alex’s threat index is high already…
• Was building Akkad so far away a mistake? Does it make Alex more likely to attack me? Will it be too difficult to fill this backup land quickly enough on Immortal? The city site felt so yummy, I wanted to grab it first!
• I already hear you screaming: „Not enough workers! Not enough workers!“ :) And, when was the right time to research Archery, if ever? I’m researching this for the UU and feel, that I’m a bit too late with that. On the other hand, there wasn’t much barb issues and none of the AI-s is in war prep. mode…
• The plan is to continue peacefully expanding for a while, with plans for later war in head.

Some comments on your save:
Spoiler :

You shouldn't have delayed settling Akkad because you didn't have Mysticism yet. You could have started building a warrior and then switch to monument when Mysticism was researched.

Going for Horse Archers is a plan I quite like. Akkad is in a good location, but it takes some time to connect it to Babylon. You should focus on expanding to the south-west (your future cities). With Archery you can use bowmen to defend it all. With 2 strategic resources near by you could have done without archery though.

@wafflecakes

Spoiler :

I noticed you have build roads towards the horse resource. Those weren't needed and those worker turns could have been better spent towards your route to the west.

The cities are already connected :)
I didn't forget about the western area, I just didn't "find the time" to explore it yet.

I guess you're right about delaying settling Akkad. I just wanted the monument there ASAP... and for some reason I was thinking that when founding the city now, with the maintenance costs, I'll research Mysticism forever.

My bad, I mean south-east. I also didn't see the roads :goodjob: You also might be right with the maintenance cost.

CivConvict - If I had seen the marble I'd have went this way I think.

GKey - Axes!

Dhoom for third.

@Grashopa
Okay, I thought that you were shadowing when you mentioned playing Deity level. I understood you to mean that you had changed this game's difficulty level to Deity. Apparently, that's not the case (your save is on Immortal difficulty level) and you aren't shadowing, so I'll give you some comments on your game.

4) Ruff_Hi created a little utility called a customassets quick change that allows you to quickly switch CA folders based on a naming convention for the CA copies. Great little tool you can find in the Utilities sub-forum in the MOds forum.
Okay, I finally found the thread for the Civ4 Customasset Quick Change tool.

It actually looks like he has it set up his program to accept command-line input, so you could feasibly put the appropriate command-line call inside of the relevant .bat file. The command-line option would go in the .bat file where I was talking about when I mentioned running the Customasset Quick Change tool using the "start" command within the .bat files.

- Okay, it's great that you have been whipping in your capital sinec you don't have that many improved squares to work, so whipping population points in favour of working unimproved squares with citizens is a good choice.
- You clearly had a goal in mind of working the Gold and you did exactly that with your second City.
- Chopping out another Worker is a great idea. It would be wonderful if you could start to get your Cities connected via a Road and that extra Worker will definitely help you out.
- Actually, it is great that both Cities are building Workers--if you're going to peacefully expand, you definitely want to build a lot of Workers.
- Nice idea to Irrigate the Wine. I haven't seen anyone else come up with this idea yet.

- I am not convinced that it is vitally important to be so aggressive in your settling in two different directions--not only will it take you longer to set up your Trade Network (aka Trade Routes via Roads) this way, but Maintenance Costs will start to hurt with two far-flung Cities. Still, you're at least producing the necessary Workers to make this approach a viable one, so there is potential in this plan.
- Your Workers are going to be quite busy for the next little while, though, so I'd suggest not stopping to build them and pump out another 2 more after the current 2 that you are building, since you will be in a Worker-action deficit situation for quite some time to come--Mines around the capital need to be mined, City #3 (once the Settler sits down) will need to have squares improved for it very shortly, and you'll need to build more than zero Roads shortly. That is, unless you are playing a "no Roads" variant of the game.

No, I don't plan on playing "no roads" game, just had lack of worker turns to spare. As you noticed I will actually have total 4 workers for 3 cities. Westernmost blocker city will work 5f1c rice and 2f1h1c plain farm for total of 9 food and run 2 scientists (will chop a bit to get library up faster.
Capital will build worker-settler-settler to take cow-spices spot. After reading your posts I think it's ok to move it 1S and place one city that will grab cow-copper spot. Other settler will go for fish-spices in north - that will leave me with 5 cities and place for one more.

Also on roads - 2 of my 3 cities is connected with Ethiopians trough rivers - that will definately help regarding trade routes.

@late submissions

They are always most welcome! This thread is here for learning so more contribution is more learning.

I've added your submissions in the voting post, however be aware that you "might not" have your submissions evaluated by people that have already voted (can't force anyone). You'll still get comments on your play though :)

EDIT: I've added a link in the OP to the voting post and will update throughout the Cookbook with new links.
Voting will go on for about 24 more hours, maybe slightly less when I get the time to check the vote counts :)
