Handy 23 Random AWE

Sounds like we moved our legion that was camped out on the Sumerian iron.

Keep settling. Drive down those costs. Is there any way we can get more units to Selucia? How about out of that stack NE of Worker Pump.

I like the idea of focusing on the Spanish.

I can't check the save right now, but I believe that Legionary was still on the Sumerian iron at the beginning of my round and I certainly never moved it. They must have another source.

The next player can move more units into Seleucia before hitting Enter, if he thinks it's the right idea. I just felt this would move too many units out of play, bearing that troublesome river in mind, for the sake of a tough target the Sumerians probably won't attack, judging by the behavior of the single swordsman leading their advance.

got it,

I will assess the situation, I also rather move the armies forward to wipe out the enemy core such as Spain or others.
I assume we want knights after engineering or shall we skip that optional tech all together?

save

Pre-Turn
notice a green town in the south east and we have no protection in the south eastern city with fog all around
I rather have some units there
MM and get engineering to 4 turns without any deficit (at 50% science)

IT India loses 2 archers to our army
Sumer does NOT go for Seleucia, but continues march into our territory and they start KT ( we may face knights soon)

1. 460AD
found Tyrus and abandon Indus thats threatend by a barb horse
lucky Sumer has 2 stacks now, bombard one of them and then attack
take out 8 units (4 swords + 4 archer) losing only 1 legion

IT what happened to Sumer, they forgot to pillage the road to Seleucia, but move stack

2. 470AD
bombard the 2nd Sumer stack, lose 2 units but the stack of 7 + 2 stray units are gone
defeat 4 more stray units
reduce science to 0%

IT we beat 2 units on defense and get Engineering. mono next in 4 :) but at slight deficit

3. 480AD
this turn's deficit is covered by a brab camp disposal
3 Sumer units at Arretium provide leader fishing opportunities, we beat them all but no leader :(
abandon Aarhus to free our 3rd army, 2 reached Salmanca

IT this can get nasty as the 1st Indian phant appears, our iron covering legion in Sumer land is taken out
beat a LB in Spain

4. 490AD
found Verona in the east, defeat 3 units and Salamanca burns for 25gold
defeat an Aztec stray archer, burn that lone Aztec town in the east taking out only a horse
assmeble an attack force to go after Vitoria and the gems there, we need them

IT no attacks but India gets closer with 2 phants

5. 500AD
found Bufinium to extend the northeast
one army rests, the other marches on into Spain and hopefully the India core, spotting iron

IT the AI decided that Ganges is the best target, many units are running around
a phnat pops up next to Seleucia
luckily we get walls ther just on time

6. 510AD
we need to play definsive with phants, bomb the one at Seleucia
take out a Sumer EW and 3 archers at Ganges
2 armies reach Murcia
reduce research a notch

IT a phant retreats at Ganges, we get montheism, chicalry due in 4 at 50% science :)
India starts Sistine

7. 520AD
our cities grow and with 4 luxes, we need to employ quite a few scienctists
found Mediolanum near Vitoria to get closer to gems, found Treveri in the east
defeat 2 Spanish achers with elites, no MGL
take out 3 units and raze Murcia
increase lux to 20% at the moment

IT argh, lose an elite legion to phant
finally get the Heroic Epic

8. 530AD
defeat 3 units and raze Aztec town in the west
defeat 2 more units next to Ganges, what's up with my leader luck, at least 20 eilte wins already

IT there is a sudden Aztec horse rush from the west appearing

9. 540AD
found Sirmium, thats starts a MP warrior
beat a 1hp LB near Ganges and finally get a MGL, form an army, should wait for knights
beat 4 of the Aztec horses but lose a legion
beat an archer and get another MGL, form army for knights in the future, send it back to capital

IT no attack as the AI is running around

10. 550AD
take down 3 more Aztec horses and an archer in the west
pillage Spanish iron, take down pike in Toledo but redline army

next played need to MM cities as I didn't do that anymore

turn down science to 30% since chivalry is due next turn

Ok, I got it. Sounds like I will be filling the two Knight armies on my turn. Lets see how much that will help. I am hoping to be agressive rather than defensive.

Since we are Pangea, I am thinking we go with Pentagon and filling the Armies with 4 units. If we find a civ that is not on the mainland, it won't be large and we can use later armies to deal with it.

Have we already built Pentagon?

Greebley, use the next MGL for the pentagon. the reason why I didn't want to build it yet was simple. We need quite some time to fill those armies anyway with 4 units. And the 3 legion armies should not come back, rather pillage and create havoc in enemy territory. Thus, Pentagon was 2nd priority for me.

Ya, that was exactly my thought. Hopefully I will actually get an MGL.

Also agree on not bringing back the Armies.

Seems like substantially more units coming our way, with Sumeria and Aztecs joining the fray. If we can pull those Spanish towns down and get Izzy out of the game in the next couple sets, that would be a plus.

Looks like we can reduce our front by using that body of water next to Toledo.

Preturn: Any town which will build a unit next turn gets switched to something that takes longer so we can get more knights faster.

IBT: Units advance

560 AD: Switch towns with barracks to Knights. Lose a Legionary to a Longbow. Win all other battles.

IBT: Lose a Legionary on defense. Build our first 2 knights.

570 AD: Get a Great Leader = Pentagon

580 AD: Rush Pentagon in Ratudgunum (didn't want it on the front line, so took 2 turns)

IBT: Get 3 more Knights. Aztecs have Iron as swordsmen show up.

590 AD: Raze Toledo. Otherwise armies healing. Get another GL and Army.

600 AD: Kill enemy units.

610 AD: Get another Leader and another Army.

620 AD: Destroy a Spanish town to the West.

630 AD: Kill enemy units. Our Legionary armies have been banging on Barcelona and are injured. They need lots of healing.

640 AD: Kill enemy units.

650 AD: Capture New Calcutta. However our Knight army injured. Feel free to abandon

Notes:
We are still waiting for Knights. 2 armies have 1 and 2 units each.
We now have 3 legionary, 4 knight armies, and the Pentagon. The knight armies have 4, 3, 2, and 1 knight. The 2 and 1 knight armies are near our core waiting for their 3rd knight before going to the front line. We will have some in 2-3 turns.

Longer term, I think we want to push our way to the natural choke on both sides of the (presumably) inland lake.

Trying to take out Barcelona may have been an error. We may want to just pillage after we heal, though I would like to weaken Spain by destroying some cities (speed 1 units pillage so slowly).

We should try to defend more towns. Conquistadors may not be far away. We have lots of towns so it is non-trivial. That is one reason I would like to get to the choke - to shorten our front line. I think we should be able to fill the lands up to the choke in 10-20 turns.

After we get the choke, we will want to push the Western longer choke forward as there looks to be a shorter choke farther in. The Eastern side can just defend.

We also need Infra. I wanted to fill the knight armies first though (and get pikes for defense as well).
