Maybe Cleopatra is just friendly and easy going but when I was at war with Egypt I notice when I tried to initiate peace, she would not reply yet she was pleased with me.

I think that is not a bug, it's a feature. ;) There apparently is a timer that keeps your enemies from talking to you for several turns after a war was started. You have to play, like 10 turns or so, before you can talk to them again - even if they adore you. ;) At least that's the way it seems. I think it was the same way in earlier Civ games.

I guess usually, the way to get into a war with a Civ that is otherwise happy with you is to attack someone they have a defensive treaty with. Is that what happened?

Yes, that is what happened I attacked Germany and Egypt (who was my friend) went to war against me. I can understand the timer but she remained pleased with me even though we were at war.

Does that mean if I left her alone she would not attack me or would she eventually become enraged with me? It just seems a little buggy to mot have the AI change from Pleased to Anger in time of war.

Pleased represents the AI's overall state towards you. Declaring war on an AI is a -3 penalty I believe. Declaring war on an AI's friend is not as much of a penalty. Either way, if you have a high + with the AI, they will remain "pleased" in the sense that overall they have more positives towards you than negatives.

That doesn't prevent them from protecting their ally in a pact nor does it mean they are just as pleased as they were before.

Also, where were you determining their pleased state from? If from the main foreign relations advisor screen, make sure you didn't have another civ selected, or it would be displaying her relations to THEM, not to you.

When I wanted to make peace with them the Diplomatic screen popped up with a big smiling face of Cleopatra and the caption saying, "Will you stop pestering me!" Above her head it said that she was (Pleased).

I am killing her people and she is pleased. :crazyeye:

Maybe she had too many cities and because you can no longer abandon the ones you dont want, you were doing her a favour by taking them off her?:mischief:
