Harbor, Ports and Commercial Ports

Similar to the problem between Castle and Star Fort, in the case of Harbor and Ports I think is worst.

I have a city with a harbor, I conquest, and begin to construct new buildings. This city is in the coast.

In industrial Era, I realized I only can build trirremes ¿?¿?. When I begin to study it, I saw that I can´t really build a Port, because it was obsolete by the Commercial Port. Looking at the buildings disabled, in city view, I noted, I can´t build a Commercial Port because I haven´t a Port. Weird!

So, Is there a way to construct the Commercial Port? IS this the reason I only can build trirremes? (I am constructing Iron Frigate in others cities yet!)

Thank

Ports have nothing to do with what units you produce. You need a Shipwright if you want to make wooden ships. Ports and Harbors are just a straight upgrade line.

Harbor -> Port -> Commercial Port -> International Port

Canoe Builder = Canoe Units
Shipwright = Wooden Ships

You probably lack resources like Steel if you cannot build more advanced ships. Or possibly lack fuel to run the ships.

FYI, secondarily he is claiming there is a bug in that he can't build a Commercial Port in a city without a Port, due to the Port being obsoleted.

Yeah, as in, Port is prerequisite for Commercial Port as well as Commercial Port is an upgrade to the Port. Something is certainly wrong in the xml there and doesn't follow the normal building upgrade programming settings.

I see the problem. Its all about the resource requirements for ports. I will fix.

EDIT: They don't go obsolete. So he just needs the right resources to upgrade.

Harbor = Wood OR Bamboo OR Prime Timber
Port = Stone OR Prime Timber
Commercial Port = Cement OR Stone
International Port = Cement AND Steel Wares

Looks like it could be fixed if I gave Port an OR Cement

Sorry, but something wrong happens also with Shipwright, I can´t build it either. I have now Steam Power, and this technology obsolete Shipwright... additionally, I am not able to build Shipyard..so, no way to construct any boat since Shipwright goes obsolete.

So there is no other Industrial boat you can build?

As for the Shipyard I will have to think if it should go obsolete when the Shipwright goes obsolete and if both should be moved back in what obsoletes them.

EDIT: Ok so I moved Sails, Sail Weaver and Shipwright to go obsolete at Coast Guard tech.

This should hopefully solve your problem. I will have to still deal with the Shipyard later.
