Well, on one forum, which is very non-geek, I gave people free tech support. Then a few members accounts got hacked. And guess who they blame ... ME of course!! :(

They also get mad at me for "hacking their computers" by posting a link to the Crash IE site.

Anything like this happen to you?

Sometimes, but I no longer notice it. If people get mad at me for merely being a geek, they're not worth my time.

Once at school, some guy caled me a *****t nerd, and he ended up getting laid out by my friends (1 nerd guy and um normal girl........). Quite funny.

I sometimes become a geek in my own right as well as a geek-by-association, but then again everybody's a geek in their own way. Fantasy Football is a good example.

The specific example you gave, essentially. I provide basic support for my family members all the time, so of course when something bad happens it must be my fault. Just stop helping, if it bothers you (wouldn't work online but it works wonders in real life). Or you could call them out on it, or leave.

I'm not even really good with computers, but I think levels of geekiness are relative.

I agree. In my family, friends, enighbourhoods etc. I'm the best at anything computer related, however I go onto some forums and feel like a noob.
