[NFP] Has anyone tried playing with all 8 game modes on?

I just recently finished such a game. Some game modes slow you down (Apocalypse, Research Shuffle, Dramatic Ages, Zombies), but others speed you up (Secret Societies, Heroes, Corporations, Better Barbarians), so they kind of balance out.

I recruited Hercules to rush some districts, but he also proved to be invaluable when one of my cities experienced a sudden zombie outbreak and again when I needed to recapture some cities I lost to a dark age.

Haven't finished yet, but I as well.

Between Dramatic Age city loss, the zombies, and the global apocalypse, a full 8 mode sounds like it would be madness in the end of the game.

The more game modes that you enable, the easier the game will be for the human player, you might find dramatic ages or apocalypse mode to be harder but they are absolutely impossible for the AI to handle. Putting 8 game modes on at the same time would be like playing at settler difficulty. Play Deity on a large or huge continents map without any game modes on and only picking top tier AI leaders to compete against, don't restart your starting location or save scum and you will be surprised what the AI can do under ideal circumstances for it, might actually get a challenge.

Has anyone ever done a tier list for AI leaders? That seems like it'd be useful information to have.

I play only huge deity marathon all 8 mods. It's just more fun than without them IMO. And no, its not easier than without the mods. Eg.: zombies and shuffle modes makes it actually harder. The only mod which gives you significant advantage is Heroes, because AI seems to rarely use them and I think it doesnt use their special abilities at all. I stopped playing though, because corporation mode is broken because of the AI not improving luxury resources bug.

I just posted about finishing a game with all but zombies enabled. I was concerned that zombies would cheese it up too much. But, I had all other modes enabled and also extended eras mod. That is the game I ended up winning culturally (I was actually trying for religious) without meeting 3 of 12 civs and in the industrial era. Felt very strange...

Totally agree with you here. I didn't realize how OP corps were until I won without realizing it... Also, the AI sucks so bad. At least in my recent game they weren't plopping cities in bad spots just for the heck of it, but not improving luxuries, etc., is really bad. And, I forget what hero it is but the one that let's you keep getting envoys over and over is completely broken. That and Pagodas = auto Diplomatic victory imho!

I don't think the game modes were designed to be used altogether.

Zombie Defense in particular.
It is a Tower Defense game mode for Civ VI.

Heroes & Legends is the next. (One that pairs with Zombies quite well).

The other modes are less so. E.g: Monopolies and Corporations is like a minor new game mechanic.
Barbarian Clans, an alternative barb mode. Etc.

I've just finished a game with all the modes on. I played at Deity (with the "No AI Start Advantage" mod), standard speed, on a small map as Kongo. Conclusions: lots of city-states emerged from barbarian outposts which made it easier and duller for me; zombies were weak and not numerous; the game was interesting until midgame only, that is while I was lagging far behind, after which point it was quite a breeze.

Just to prevent confusion, you say "mods" when you mean "modes".

OT, I also find zombies makes it a lot harder (I also play deity with all 8 modes). The AI doesn't use heroes that much, but I must admit they do take quite some so I mostly only get one or two in a game (there are some left mostly but by then I don't care).

Yes sorry, that was tipo. 8 modes and 0 mods. I never seen AI actually use hero for conquest, like a player would do, which is huge advantage since this way I am able to conquer complete civs early in the game, which otherwise would not be possible (on deity/huge map). I think they also do not use the special abilities. In those games, where I did not get an early hero, the game was much harder.

Can't speak for special abilities, but I have seen them used in war. Phillip of Spain once used Hippolyta on me during an ancient era war. Dealing with a 32 str hero who heals 20 hp every turn when all you have is warriors and slingers is not fun. Whittling down stronger foes is usually possible, but I could not stop this invasion with standard units. I had to rush out the twins(the only hero I discovered) to have any chance. That said later in the game during the medieval and later wars Phillip was all Hippo-who? despite having re-summoned her several times. She just never got sent back out to the front lines for some reason.
