Has Iron availability changed?

Something rather surprising in a game, I have an iron mine, linked by road to my cities (and within cultural borders), but my units are still using bronze weapons (several turns passed without changes). So, does something changed since the last version? This is kinda strange!

Do you have Iron Working? IIRC, you need Smelting to reveal the iron and to build a mine and get the production bonus, but Iron working to get Iron as a strategic resource (important for melee units and certain ships and the like)

have you researched iron working? iron becomes visible with smelting, but requires iron working to become usable (exeption to this is the RoK mines of galdur). Just like with some of the calender resources and bronze

oh sorry... and indeed in my last (huge game, so I don't restart often), my iron was from the mines of Gal-Dur!). So I'm misled
