Have forest fires fixed mass chopping?

Is it now better to only chop small isolated forests/jungles and leave the large forests/jungles alive? Especially if playing with soothsayers so you can force even more fires out?

I very rarely resort to wanton chopping anyway. Lumber Mills are legit good tile improvements now and I only chop/harvest when I plan to plop down a district or wonder on the tile.

With the yields that come after a fire or two I will no longer chop unless it's for a specific wonder I need for a strategy.

I try to preserve forest as much as possible and rarely chop. So, forest fires are a nice addition to the game, for me. :)

Well, am I correct in presuming that a forest cannot chopped while in flames?

Also, do we understand what causes forest fires? I have had a few, none of which were caused by any chopping activity.

Forest fires aren't common enough to where they make forests significantly better than they were. Well, maybe if you play on apocalypse mode and set them on fire yourself.

I don't think anything causes forest fires, they just happen randomly like floods, tornados, etc.

The boost goes to the tile, though, at least I think. So if you come across nice area of “enhanced” woods, chopping only sacrifices future gains from forest fires. Which by mid game is a small thing compared to the yield from the almighty chop. If the boost from fires is attached to the woods itself this is a different deal entirely.

You chop when you need to chop, fires are a minor pain as it regrows. What is your point?
The stacking bonuses sounds like a bug so not sure you should consider that long term.
What an optimistic view on FX rhythm of patches ;)

They will release a patch every Month now, so assuming this isn't hard to Fix, we might have only 3 to 4 weeks with this behavior.

I'll chop a rainforest later, that had a fire and I kept it around, to be sure that the yields go to the tile. If it does, there isn't much reason to avoid chopping it. If the yields go to the wood/rainforest, then I might consider keeping wood/forest that already had a fire. Either way, I like to build lumber mills in cities that don't have hills, so it's a good buff to them.

I see a lot of threads displaying 10+ yield tiles screenshots.
However these screenshots are all taken after T200.

Well, I actually don't care about any yield on earth, if my civilization is already on another planet.

Maybe you shall show me that sorts of high yields can be achieved in a more reasonable time like T100 standard speed?

I have a hard time chopping forests because I play Civ also for the creation of a world that I deem nice, and forests are a part of that. I love to have swaths of forests, and forest fires are therefore a cool addition to the game. I don't care about the yields too much, although I did see in Apocalypse mode how nuts they can go if you light fires yourself. I hardly needed any lumber mills or farms.

I'm sorry, but this seems to be your respond to a lot of things. You are quick, you play highly efficiently, we get it. But not everyone does so, and not everyone wants to do so.

So if you see topics where something is discussed that is not relevant to you, why post at all? To me it just comes of as boasting, and does not contribute anything to the discussion.

??

What Lily posted is directly relevant to this topic.

Most of the bonuses from not chopping kick in later in the game. For players who like to power game and try to win as fast as possible it's still better to chop rather than wait for the improved yields from the fertility boosts since they kick in too late to be relevant for this type of play.

Whether you want to play like this or not is a personal choice but I find this post relevant and am happy for their input.

Since the topic in question is whether too chop or not it would be sad if those who are aiming for speed times are just not allowed to be part of the discussion

I'd still avoid having big non-forested flat areas just to prevent tornadoes from spawning :)

Agreed, and maybe I spoke out of turn, for which I apologise.

However, their sentence "Maybe you shall show me that sorts of high yields can be achieved in a more reasonable time like T100 standard speed?" was made after an edit that was not there when I posted, and it is this sentence that adds to the discussion in my opinion (even though the word "reasonable" is highly contestable).

A message saying "High yiels are only relevant to me in and around the first 100 turns on X speed, otherwise the game has progressed so much that it's not worth it for me" still conveys sort of the same message that they want to convey (I guess?) but comes across very differently. Again, just my opinion.

If I dont need the forest, I chop.
I am not high level player in civ 6 yet, but usually in civilization you want to make stuff happen as early as you can, to get the snowball rolling. Minor bonuses can wait.

That aluminium tile would have been awesome if you'd skipped chopping and just put a mine on top.

I chopped it only for the screenshot. I'm in "I already won and nothing I do actually matters now" mode by that point, just waiting for the Aid Request to end.
